AppleJackXD: I just ordered vdsl2 today :D my technician comes on 21/7/2013 im so excited i can download faster and upload my youtube vids really fast and have a better experience playing my bf3 online :D i can feel the power all ready and they haven't even installed it yet :D Im really excited because my adsl2 only goes at 2.50 mb and my upload speed is an awful 0.8 kb

If you're only getting 2.5Mbps now there are two scenarios

a) You're not in a VDSL2 zone and won't get VDSL2 (even though a prequal has presumably shown you can)

b) You are in a  VDSL2 zone but your internal premises wiring is completely and utterly borked - in which case you've only got yourself to blame for your current slow speeds as you could have been getting 5x faster speeds simply by fixing your wiring.

Scenario B is correct ,the cabinet is at the end of my street. The wiring in my house is completly shot and is being fixed a week before my vdsl2 connection is installed. Im just a border at my house it's not up to me to fix the phone wiring ,My dad made me use dial up until 2008 lol he is so hard up ,you think he was gonna get the phone wiring fixed if i asked him ? I don't think so lol.... It took telecom telling him it had to be done to convince him to get it fixed.

I don't appreciate you trying to burst my little bubble of excitement that i have for my new vdsl that im getting. Please do not make fun of my house wiring again. We don't have all the money in the world unlike a lot of you others on this forum hence why phone wiring to make the internet faster was my fathers lowest priority. In my house we have this little thing called bills and we need to pay them.

It was nothing like a dig at you.... It was a serious and likely accurate assessment. It's all well and good to order VDSL but unless your home wiring is up to scratch you won't get good results.

Cheers - N

Im sorry ,i understand sorry for getting kinda mad. I just felt a bit insulted lol

Anyway my phone wiring is being fixed before they setup vdsl at my house.... so when i get my vdsl i should get some great speeds since the cabinet is about 300 maybe 200 meters down the street.

I live in Christchurch btw.

Decided to swap out the Draytek on Friday night for the shiny new VDSL modem to make sure it works before the tech arrived.

Slight problem, them technicolour couldn't establish connection, so I swapped it back to the Draytek, now that cant connect either.

Swapped out the lead from modem to jack ( dedicated from XDSL filter ) and still had no luck.

Rung telecom Friday night, level two support suggested port reset. that didn't seem to work.
Rung again yesterday and was told chorus would investigate, be there soon.
Woke up this morning rung again, was told tech be there no later than 11am, still haven't heard from tech.

So haven't had had the net since Friday night, Im wondering if its a simple config issue in the modems that I haven't noticed and level one support didn't notice either? or if some how the internal wiring packed a sad as soon as i swapped cables between modems ?

Booked in for VDSL connection on weds arvo. Half hoping if a tech shows up between now and then he can just do the magic VDSL switch at the same time haha.

If that 100m is accurate is I would expect lower attenuation than 4.0 so a new wiring install would probably improve that, however, you should still have great results with 4.0 attenuation on VDSL anyway.

Yup your line stats are great.
Your attenuation should come down after the install, bare in mind you may be 100 metres from the cabinet, but you also have to consider your drive-way and how the line takes its path back to the cabinet.

Just had my VDSL installed on Friday. Chorus was scheduled to come in the afternoon, but I received a call first thing in the morning asking if I would be home and it was all installed by 10am. It was a pretty quick install as I already have cat 5 wiring. The Chorus guy was great BTW.

My modem stats show I'm connecting at 10,352 / 44,257, but it seems like I'm still on the ADSL profile based on my speed tests, which have been giving the same results since I first tested immediately after the install:

On Friday the guy from Chorus said I should be switched over to the VDSL profile within about 4 hours, but it doesn't seem like this is happened. Is there any way to check this?

Try

www.telecom.co.nz/speedtest

You are with telecom, so use their speedtest server :)

Thanks joutei, just tried their speedtest and got 39ms latency, 22.89 Mbps down, 1.02 Mbps up. Slightly better :) but still seems low compared to my connect speeds. That's why I'm wondering if i'm still on the ADSL profile, or if it is just the DLM doing its thing.

They told me on the phone it takes about 1 week for your speeds to reach their maximum speed. It takes a week because it has a period where the connection gets tested and tweaked.

ha, so 30min after my post above, chorus rung and where on site at home, so went back home to meet him.

Turns out there was a faulty card in the cabinet, replaced that and I should have ADSL again soon, looking forward to the Wednesday VDSL connection.

New Geekzone member.  I also had VDSL installed Friday (Mt Eden) and am having the identical issue to you.  Speeds stuck at ADSL 2+ Maximum (24 down, 1 up). My modem shows 36 down, 10 up but Speedtest gets 22 down and 1 up.

I wasted a bunch of time talking with people at Telecom support yesterday and had no success until early evening talking with Complex Technical Support.  I have now been told that the Telecom Provisioning Team didn't upgrade my profile and still stuck on ADSL.  It was also confirmed that Chorus had set-up everything correctly so only a Telecom NZ issue.

I was promised would be fixed today but Telecom Provisioning Team not responding to Complex Technical Support Team.  I expect a call back about 4pm today for an update.

Looks like maybe a common mistake (I hope) made Friday.  Given this issue, I don't think DLM has even started yet.   Will let you know if anything changes.

Yes, I understand that. Was just expecting the jump in speeds like tstone mentioned a few pages back.

Ah, thanks for the info Jay. Yes, sounds like the same thing has happened on my connection. Keen to hear if/when/how you get it resolved :)

Good timing.  Just had a call back from very helpful Complex Technical Support rep.  The Telecom Provisioning Team had to update a setting from their end as I was still Throttled to ADSL speeds even with VDSL connection.  This was done just a few minutes back and I re-started my modem.

First test on Telecom Speed test site was 33.8 down and 9.83 up - huge improvement from 22/1.

The Support rep suggested you get your case elevated (via Broadband Support) to the Complex Support team for resolution.  He is sending out a note to all the support reps that their may be a common issue and letting them know how to resolve.

Best wishes for a speedy resolution.

Glad you got yours resolved :) Just got off the phone from Telecom, apparently my job is still open so thats why I'm not getting VDSL speeds yet. They reckoned it is usually 24-48 working hours to get it closed off, not the 4 hours I was quoted. I guess I'll just wait it out a bit longer, and try again tomorrow afternoon if no speed increase.

Just as an FYI.  I had the "open" order reason yesterday morning and they supposedly closed it late morning Saturday but speed didn't increase until today -  Sunday afternoon - when Provisioning team updated some setting.  The website says 12 hours until fully hooked up to VDSL speed but seems to be taking quite a bit longer than quoted for the lucky few of us with installs last week.

Hope it resolves soon.
