Johnk: Decided to swap out the Draytek on Friday night for the shiny new VDSL modem to make sure it works before the tech arrived.

Hey Chap - I don't know if there is anyone from the helpdesk currently online here, but I could check this out tomorrow for you when I'm back at work?

If you are currently with Telecom I would set-up the new modem to use with current ADSL so everything set for VDSL install.  Chorus will then install a master splitter, and new direct line as needed, You then change plugs to RJ45 to modem and VDSL should work shortly after.

Hope that helps..

Haven't had a text message to confirm an appointment for today. Have a feeling I'm going to be sitting around wasting the day away.

Yep - plug it in place of your current modem, get it set up in preparation for your install :)

install day. No one here yet but DSL has just gone down so hopefully that means they are busy patching my line to something AWESOME that somehow overcomes this terrible attenuation.

Plugged in the new modem. Sure enough connected with VDSL2.

Before

Attenuation Up/Down: 15.8/24.0 !

After
Rate Up/Down: 2940/13,200
Attenuation Up/Down: 56.5/27.1 !!!!!!

Minor note re. Attenuation.  Seems like VDSL will have higher attenuation (due to higher frequencies) then ADSL so don't be surprised.  Line speed still should increase quite well.

I'm just surprised that they seem to be proceeding with the install given my original stats. Maybe they think that it's all down to my house wiring. Unfortunately not. Already have pretty clean runs and a master splitter. I even did a test on the weekend by connecting the router right where the cable comes into the house. No improvement.

Has a technician visited your house to do the wiring?

Quick question - I have been hooked up to VDSL since Friday - albeit a few issues along the way so I could get full VDSL speed.

I was wondering how do I know when Dynamic Line Management is active?  My modem sync speed has remained identical since I first switched it on - Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:10,347 / 36,227
With a 20 ms ping time.  Very few errors beyond FEC type.

How will I know when changes being made with DLM?

Thanks.

You can see DLM forced re-syncs in the Event log on the Technicolor modem. To verify what DLM you are on you will need to Telnet onto the device and issue this command: xdsl info expand=enabled
