Well my mother-in-law rang up last nite wanting to throw her Y300 out the window. Over the past two weeks it has been .
1. Cutting off after about 10 ~ 15 minutes into a call.
2. Going to one way speech mode on calls with a blank screen Can't end the call unless the other party does.
3. Went to reply to a SMS and it called up the other person. Could not end the call or power off the fone . Had to wait until the answer machine at the other end hung up.
4. Was sitting beside her and suddenly the screen lit up with EMERGENCY in red and the keypad displayed.

As these fones don't power off but go into a standby state for fast boot I told her to take out the batter and see what happens. Her reply was " That's too hard as I have to remove the cover." She's coming up next weekend so I'll have a look at it for her..

New I should have paid a bit more and got something decent. You get what you paid for I guess but it was a good entry fone for her to get the hang of a smart fone..

old3eyes: It's a good fone for what you pay for but the biggest headache for my mother- in-law is this

"When you have 3G and WiFi both turned on and leave the WiFi zone 3G gets turned off until you unlock by going OK to the popup that says something like " You have left the WiFi zone and you will need to use data, press OK to turn on data" If you get a call and swipe to unlock you can end up canceling this popup and data is then turned off until you manually turn it back on again so you won't get anything that uses data like MMS, WhatsApp etc"

Will need to check and confirm but pretty sure there is check box for 'Don't ask me again' that way it will seamlessly re-enable mobile data without user prompt/confirmation.

In regards to your more recent post, pity your mother in-law is having issues.. The phone has a pretty good reputation.. Maybe worth getting her local store to get it sent away and looked at. Is she pretty savvy with phones? Not user error?

Thanx for the info.  She is not a techno  when it come to things like this,  I did check with the Huawei NZ Facebook page and asked the question about the Wifi  to 3G issue and they said it was a design feature..

USER UPDATE: Now that I've used the Y300 for a couple of months I can say it suits my needs perfectly. It took me awhile to learn my way around the Android UI, but once I'd learned the basics the rest came more easily. And it came in dead handy when my wife bought her first tech-toy ... a Samsung Tab3 tablet with a 10.5 inch screen. She'd never touched a computer before and I've been able to get her started. It's also some in handy for finding my way around my new PC with Windows 8.

One important thing I've learned about my Y300 that could be valuable to other users is that the battery charge lasts much much longer if you turn off the WiFi, Bluetooth, Data and GPS when you don't need them (like when I'm at home or simply using the phone as a phone). It's easy enough to turn those services on when you need them, so I leave them off unless I do and my battery charge lasts three times as long. Cheers

My mother-in-law arrive today so I remove the battery for about 5 minutes and repowered it. She has not rebooted this for months and wasn't aware that power off is only standby. Made a 17 minute call to it OK and her daughter called and talked for about 20 minutes no problem. By chance I checked for updates and there was an update from B165 to B166. Reason "Fix for critical calling issues"

Maybe a combination of issues. Anyway I have told her to "reboot" the fone at least once a week. I also notice that it is way faster after the update at moving between screens.. The update didn't unfortunately remove the "Leaving WiFi" prompt.

My Y300 is on or in standby 24/7. I got the same  80mb plus update today. But I have never had the "Leaving WiFi" prompt even though I used to have WiFi turned on when leaving home even though I didn't use it. Now I leave it off unless I am at home or in a place where WiFi is free - like McDonalds or the downtown area. Even so, when I leave those areas I get no "Leaving WiFi" prompt.

Try turning off WiFi at home and see if you get a popup about using mobile data??   I asked Huawei about this and they said it was a design feature and can't be turned off.   Why you are not seeing it I don't know..

Just tried it @ home and the popup appeared ... ONCE ... and only after I turned WiFi on and then off after powering up after sleep. Not a big deal for me. It's like one of those popups that appear after I want to delete something from a Windows application. Not that I've been able to replicate it since I first tried it.

Thanx for confirming it.  It's not a biggy for me  but the M-I-L   uses WhatsApp these days for most messaging so when she  leaves home,  if she forgets to OK it  the leaving WiFi  zone then 3G is turned off until she realizes it or she gets home..

Still a good  fone for the price..
