I would also accept a drop in speed to go from VDSL to fibre. No issues with phone lines such as degradation, water getting in the line, interference, changes in VDSL profile. Plus generally lower latency on fibre too, and as a bonus the LFC isn't chorus so perhaps things would happen a bit faster too haha.

I just got VDSL installed today with Telecom and my speeds have barely changed lol. Before on ADSL I was getting 1655.1 kB/s DL now I currently get 1869.5 kB/s... Upload was 120 kB/s and its only gone up to 130kB/s.

Hopefully I wait a few days and these speeds start to increase..

Here are my line stats:

From what I can see you're connecting at quite a good speed (36mbit down, 10mbit up) - Try doing a speedtest to our server at http://speedtest.telecom.co.nz and see what you get.

You have to wait for Telecom to apply a VDSL profile which they can't do until Chorus let them know the install was a success (or something along those lines).

My Telecom VDSL was syncing at 40 down and 10 up but I was getting ADSL speeds like you.  Then about 12 hours later (after the profile was applied) the speeds jumped up to what you'd expect from VDSL.

Correct, then the VDSL profiling starts, it does take a wee while.

It may not fix things until the profile changes have gone through, but try this speedtest instead please...

Massive change in upload speed but yeah, if your line is syncing at 40ish, then that download speed should be better... Still could be a profile not in place yet.

If that profile was not in place his upload speed would not have jumped like it has. Something is not quite right here I must admit.

Is the testing being done on a wired ethernet connection with no-one else using the link at the same time?

The download (and upload) throughput look pretty consistent though, so that would tend to indicate that it's not a wireless issue.

Cheers - N

So I tried to call Telecom and see if they would let me install VDSL.

My area on the chorus SAT states
Network capability:
Broadband > 20 Mbps (with the right modem and plan)
Broadband > 10 Mbps
Network upgrade scheduled:
UFB deployment dates for your area are still being developed

Telecom tells me I'm not eligible for VDSL because VDSL is not on a pilot programme or anything for the public, and the only way to get VDSL the area must be fiber enabled but for whatever reasons the technicians can't install fiber then VDSL will be offered as a substitute.

Am I speaking to the wrong people or is what telecom told me the truth?

If you ring up new and moves (123 - broadband - new connection) they can sometimes do it.

It's still in pilot phase, but will be coming out soon.
