I believe its and Asus Eee 9' or 10" laptop

Interestingly, we were having dinner when the ad is on. I saw Richard then there I was didn't pay anymore attention to it, thinking it is just another Top Gear thingy.

So as the ad ended, I didn't even catch the attention to know what ad it is for.

I think this is a fail in commercial marketing, as it isn't something that can take attention of whatever doing and get the viewers curious and wondering.

Internet is my backyard...

Much cooler, Much better name than "T-Day".

I could not get as much as a Telecom logo though even fron inside the SWF and the XT branding looks almost last minute, the tiny logo on the site (as an image and not embedded) and it otherwise only appearing in the teaser video. Must be Telecom, too many pointers to be anything otherwise but clever keeping it kind of under wraps.

Quite on the contrary in fact I really do think they will be on to a winner with the 850MHz nationwide coverage and the promised fibre backhaul. I seriously can't wait. Might be time to pre-order an N71-3.

We shall all know "by June" "28 May" or whenever the date is and i'll be standing by with my Two SIM's and phones ready for perfromance rating ;-)

As somebody just pointed out I wonder if it's a coincidence they came up with a name that rhymes with "Next G".

Anyone know what model the SE phone is at the end of the ad?

I think the ad is going to confuse a lot of people with it's lack of any mention of Vodafone or Telecom, i.e. the companies almost all of the population associated with mobile phones in NZ. Should be interesting to see how they go forward with it. Regardless, good choice using Hammond, good to see them doing a "grown up" looking ad unlike what both companies have been doing the past few years.

EDIT: The SE phone is the upcoming W995a (the W995 is the version for Vodafone). Well, that's my new phone worked out then, WiFi, GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, a ridiculous 8 megapixel camera (geez...), and what looks like their usual UI which I quite like. Hopefully it's not too obscenely expensive, although with WiFi and GPS I'm probably dreaming ($1500ish probably seeing as functionality-wise it does more than the N96)

As long as the firmware isn't Telecom-crippled to support all their store functionality.

Global release date is listed as the 25/5/09 - Coincidence? I suspect not...

The W508a clamshell is also a "coming soon" model for the 850Mhz network. The W508 isn't listed for NZ and is a 2100Mhz only model.

To me, the font styling and overall look and design made me think it was a TelstraClear initiative. Not the best comparison, but a quick and dirty example:

Looks great; I had a look at the technology specifications - looks like we'll be on the bleeding edge of technology for such a small nation. The only thing that is depressing is how expensive it is and how most will never be able to afford to use it.

I think the ad is great and certainly not what i expected from Telecom. If the network DOES launch in May then that's surely got to rile Vodafone just a wee bit... :P I would imagine there might be some late nights in the marketing department to try and match just how impressive this ad is. Perhaps there is something that's been sitting in wait for Telecom to first launch their new network advertising campaign.

It is an MBP. Odd considering they don't have a cell radio.

Maybe none of the netbooks are "high-end" (in either image or price-tag) enough to fit with the image of the ad?

You know, this is a TECHNOLOGY website and I commented about the TECHNOLOGY behind the new MOBILE phone network. Why is it remotely off topic? When you talk about a new network then ALL discussions, from pricing, technology and so forth are ontopic.

I apologise if you expect people to be gushing over the superficial aspects of the network and the parent company - like whether Vodafone is this way or that way etc.
