browned: I can get 1GB of data from rapidshare over a few hours during the week (peak time), that's not bad really considering I used to get just on 1GB from rapidshare overnight with Slingshot. Slingshot cost me more, I had to pay for extra traffic most months, and the afterhours free off peak was shaped within an inch of it's life so you wouldn't get anything downloaded anyway.

Now I don't have to schedule anything for after hours and the speeds during peak time are a lot better than I used to get. I haven't had to schedule anything. My wife does complain that facebook and websites are slow....but when I have downloads running....I am not surprised.

I'm also in the same boat,

I don't mind that its a bit slower but

1 I don't pay per GB if I download during the day

2 I don't have to leave a computer on over night to schedule a download hence saving time and power.

So yes it is slower than my old ISP at some times but in most cases I am getting faster speeds even during traffic shaping times.

It is not possible to to time of day shaping for this traffic type.

Good traffic management is probably as much art as science, I wonder what hardware they are using..

Various other ISP's are using Bluecoat, NetEnforcer, PeerApp etc and definately can shape http to certain sites based on time of the day.

Ragnor, this is what I mean - it is simple for them to do this task - they do it to torrents and other p2p programs (at least for me they do), but I do not use p2p programs or torrents (hardly ever), so it's of no benefit to me really. I think they could at least give the users of premium Rapidshare accounts those few hours downloading off peak. It seems only fair that torrent users and users of P2p based file sharing programs can get it.

It seems that they have tightened there grip.. traffic shaped sites now include, rapidshare, big&free, storage.to, megashares, megaupload, hotfile, netload.in etc etc etc. All the above sites i now get shaped to around 20kbps.. all except one that has not been classified yet, can get 600kbps on it at all hours..

All the time on rapidshare, megaupload, depositfiles etc?
Btw telecom you suck royally. (ie usenet .01kbps)

That happens all the time, just buy a darned account for RS. xP

Some do not work at all due to our countries ip's not included in their list of managed ip's.

Have you tried any proxies with premium accounts?

Proxies / VPNs / Tunnels do not work because telecom throttles all SSL connections to about 5 - 10kbs

Ive seen this question before, but do proxies and or VPN avoid shaping on Big time?

Does it state anywhere in T+C that they do?

What reasoning do they have to throttle said connections?

Many privacy conscious users swear by these services!

If that was the case then all the people swearing by those WOW tunnel apps (which is just a vpn) would have an even worse connection, which isnt the case

VPN, Proxies etc have been tried and do not work. I have a premium RS account, and cannot use
it to it's full capacity.
