Hey all Excellent Chorus guy just finished up here, went from ADSL speedtests (not modem stats) off 10 down/0.5 up to VDSL speedtest straight off the bat of 20 down/8.5 up (modem stats of 21 down/9 up). Was a painful process for him here, as the phone wiring in this house is crazy (used to be two lines, they go all over the place) so he had trouble isolating the new line on the splitter. Then the exchange gave him grief too, so props for getting through all that! Exchange is 400m walking distance away, probably 300m straight line.
Quick noob question: I want to run my Time Capsule as the primary wifi router, so have connected that to the modem and successfully connecting all devices via the TC-created network. What changes (if any) should I be making to the Telecom modem? Trawled the user guides etc and had a quick look at the setup wizard but didn't want to reset something incorrectly. I can select "bridge" as the service in the setup wizard (vs "ADSL PPP and 3G" or "PPoE (VDSL or EthWAN) and 3G) but didn't want to get that wrong
Yay! So I had VDSL installed today, but unfortunately the speeds I'm only getting is 21Mbps/10Mbps up/down.
So a few things: I was under the impression that anything under 1km was good, but according to the technician it's really under 600 meters. I'm also 800 meters away from the exchange, and to make things complicated, Telecom has decided that the area I'm in is servicable by the exchange so there are no cabinets nearby. (Apparently, however, I'm 300 meters away from a cabinet that has fibre, but I don't have fibre on my street. Poop!) Anyway, as a result of this he said that the speed is pretty low - although the improvement is enough such that I'm more than willing to keep it.
Secondly, he also didn't manage to install an RJ45 connector as apparently the stock is still coming in - does the connector really make a difference? Right now it's connected to the phone jack via a splitter. (Does it even matter what kind of jack it's connected to?)
Anyway, I've read over the last 10 pages of the thread that the speed should improve over a weeks' time, so I'm fine with that too. (Given that I'm going to be away at Melbourne on Thursday for PAX...)

The TG589vn works very well with an Apple AirPort Extreme (or Time Capsule). Put the modem in bridge mode, then connect it to your WAN port of the router, enter the ISP logon details into the router. That's it.

No a BT jack rather than RJ45 will have minimal impact on performance.

On the Internet tab in the AirPort Utility ensure it's set to PPPoE, Account Name = user@xtrabb.co.nz, Password = telecom1

Hi, yes leave the VLAN tag on 10, VPI/VCI is an ATM thing, VDSL2 does not use an ATM wrapper so rather than selecting an ATM virtual circtuit it just shows VDSL2, so select that.
Hey guys, set the modem to Bridge service, left all settings alone (as in posts above), set Time Capsule to PPPoE with above Telecom account name and password, and get no Internet connection (i.e. Internet light stays unlit) and continuous "PPPoE Connecting" message from Time Capsule. Have reset all components... Any thoughts?
Alternatively, what is the downside of running the modem in supplied (non-bridge) configuration?

You shouldn't see the internet light nt he Technicolor when in bridge mode (the 'broadband' lights is on though).

Hi all, the Chorus tech just left a hour ago after setting up my Vdsl. I'm in Ngaio Wellington. I used to get speeds of 12 down and 1 up. The tech was not extremely helpful and did not seem to know a lot about Vdsl. His first speed test showed 13mb down/1mb up. He called up his office who said I'm getting 20md down and 7 up. My modem says I'm getting 25/10. He left saying there is nothing he can do. Currently my speeds are around 2mb down .5 up. I'm using the Telecom supplied modern. This is the info I get from my modem Any help would be great.
