mrhaboobi:

So just a question on your set up, does this mean you now have one SSID across the entire house?  and i see you have used Ethernet between the two devices, so is this really just working as an access point rather than a wireless mesh?

i would still call it mesh rather than a second AP, given it still does the core "Mesh" wireless.

so instead of broadcasting different channels and your devices switching, the AP and Mesh will broadcast the same channel.

while not the best result for "total throughput" for 99.9999% of users, it gives a better experience than actually roaming channels

Very weird findings, I'll test that specific port and address next....

I didn't have any issues when i was testing yesterday

Hi. Anything to report please?

grolschie: Does anyone have any info on the USB port on this device? Can it power a 2.5" HDD? Transfer speed? SMB access? Reliable? What DLNA server is onboard?

Anyone know anything about this? There's a Quick Start Guide, but no actual Product Manual / documentation.

Hi.

Have noticed that I can reserve I’d address at dhcp config screen and update the host name yo something relevant but this host name doesn’t appear to stick and on various other screens like the connected devices it doesn’t show the updated host name. Just the default one ..bug?

@mrhaboobi yes it's connected using Ethernet and yes one SSID , the same channel, password, etc. It was automatically picked up from primary router. No manual switch between access points, so works perfectly for my needs.

Ok. I’m wondering it it works via a switch. I could Ethernet the same way.

I have a Smart Modem and a Mesh unit with a network switch in-between. No problems picking up the Smart Modems WiFi settings. I also have Huawei HG630b plugged directly into the Smart Modem (not the switch), and the Mesh doesn't get confused.

Had a look though and cannot find if the DHCP issue has made any progress.

I have turned off the band steering on my Smart Modem and not had a DHCP issue since (well over a week ago.) If its dumb luck or related I have no idea, but could be worth someone else who is having problems trying it (and reporting back)

@Hio77 has been replicating issue. Needs to be in office to do more work so presume we'll here more post L3. I noticed you can go for a week or even two without DHCP issue being noticed. I'd be interested to hear in a couple of weeks whether turning off bandsteering has improved things.

Heya,

Yeah.. i need a device that's locked up in the office to collect some details for our supplier.

I still get them almost daily, always at around about the same time (expiring lease time) so I'm almost tempted to play with that a little bit.

Not that it would solve the issue, but it would limit the pain.

There is a separate issue that's also been raised here, where it's having what i suspect to be a kernel panic. but again, need the right tools etc for that.

I've put some of my devices on DHCP Reservation list to see if that helps. So far these devices have been unaffected (but only about 10 days in).

Thanks for the updates - wasn't sure if you had got into the office under level two and I had missed an update.

While a bug like this is not ideal, knowing that its on a 'todo' list makes me a lot happier than the experience I have had with other products (where they deny a problem and tell you as your the only one having it and it must be something you are doing wrong.... Not mentioning anyone in particular ....cough cough Dish cough TV cough cough..... ).

From memory I tried putting a device on the reservation list and it still did not connect.  A device was not getting a DHCP lease, so I loaded a reservation and it still did not work, so I gave it a fixed IP address.   Been a funny few weeks so my memory could be fuzzy though.

Bugger. Static does work and usually a couple of days later putting back to DHCP is okay. I'll keep persisting with that. Let us know in a couple of weeks whether turning off band steering made a difference. The big issue is I have a couple of devices I can't set statics for (washer and dryer for example). First world problem I know.

hio77, I have found an easy way to replicate the issue.

  1. Download a free Android app called UPnPTool.
  2. Stand next to the Mesh unit, and disconnect and reconnect to WiFi.
  3. Open UPnpTool and click the M-Search button and type "upnp:all" as per this screenshot. Here are my results.
  4. Stand next to the Smart Modem, and disconnect and reconnect to WiFi.
  5. Repeat step 3. Here are my results. Big difference. Lots of replies taking up more than a screen full.

Yeah, i can see what you mean.

I've got a feeling it's trigging UDP loopback protection, but i'll ask that it's checked.
