hio77, I have found an easy way to replicate the issue.

  1. Download a free Android app called UPnPTool.

  2. Stand next to the Mesh unit, and disconnect and reconnect to WiFi.

  3. Open UPnpTool and click the M-Search button and type "upnp:all" as per this screenshot. Here are my results.

  4. Stand next to the Smart Modem, and disconnect and reconnect to WiFi.

  5. Repeat step 3. Here are my results. Big difference. Lots of replies taking up more than a screen full.

Yeah, i can see what you mean.

I've got a feeling it's trigging UDP loopback protection, but i'll ask that it's checked.

Thank you.

So it seems that the Mesh Unit is a separate router. Therefore my broadcast packets from my DatagramSocket won't get routed. I can send them via a MulticastSocket, set/increase the packet's TTL and also "join" the multicast group (which apparently sends an ICMP packet to the Mesh unit to tell it to allow the packets to pass to/from/via the Smart Modem). But this is not really working.

EDIT: It's working, very intermittently, and after a horrendously long wait when sending the joinGroup command.

That's interesting. i don't see TTL being impacted.

Could be a red herring. Maybe the Mesh just occasionally lets the packets through but most times ignores them?

Yeah not quite sure, I've drilled into it a fair bit.

Anyway supplier should be coming back soon on this one.

as an update for those with the other issue, the test devices required are on the way out to me now.

those having issues though can i get you to reconfirm the following for me.

1. Do you have a mesh unit?

2. What firmware version is on your mesh unit

On DHCP issue - yes I have a mesh unit. Not at home but will let you know firmware shortly. FYI I plugged the mesh into an Ethernet port and things seem much more stable btw.

Can you mesh two Smart Modem's (not the Smart Mesh unit) through Ethernet cable or WiFi like Fritzbox's?

HI,

So setting up my new modem.  having a few issues.  DHCP Address Reservation and Host Names.

Do these work?

I can see my connected devices, and for my home laptop i have a DHCP address reservation created.  Within that reservation i have custom host name something that is easy to read for me.

When i look at my connected devices it ignores the host name ive provided and i see the messed up name i dont want.

When i look at the overview i can see the messed up host name and not the friendly one.

Have also noticed we are restricted to 10 reservation? is there any way to expand on that, or at least a way to give my devices a friendly connection name?

Further to this i have connected my printer and im using the Telstra network app they provide which can see that the printer is connect to port 192.168.1.17 and was working, yet the connected devices page on the modem cant see or doesnt display anything on 192.168.1.17.    but i see this repeated in the logs.

I'm surprised the telstra app works, their featureset is normally pretty hard locked.

I'm not aware of a way to give friendly names unfortunately.

you will also find the app is probably doing a arp scan across all the subnet to find all the devices.

DSL uptime is shown on the dsl status page.

you can find the device uptime on the network map.

Thank you,

ok so my device is showing as up for 30 mins, ( i installed it it about 9 am this morning, so its clearly dropped or died at some point ).

Is this something i can see in log files? or is there a way to alert me of a drop?

I returned a Netgear ORBI for this exact reason, eg dropping connection or random reboots.

The orbi log files were useless and all i could see what the connection time and that was it..

Currently showing

v6.00.15

as my firmware.

Cheers

I'm getting intermittent internet dropouts. The devices say "no internet" for a bit and then are fine. The WiFi connection is constant though. Log shows nothing.

Router version: v6.00.15 build05
Mesh version:  1.00.04

Do you have an external drive attached to your modem? Mine does exactly this if I do, and have file sharing enabled,. As soon as I disable that, the connection stabilises
