mAYH3M:

Has anyone got a link to the newer firmware as even the Bigpipe one keeps dropping Wifi randomly.

Contacted Bigpipe technical support and they sent me a template response.

bigpipe generally runs the same firmware as Spark (be it with slightly different functionality)

At it's core i suspect you will be seeing the same wifi issues as described here (which we are working on a solution with the vendor)

However, to ensure it's the same...

Can you please describe your setup and the issue you face when the wifi drops. the more detail the better even if it's just "i get explanation mark on the wifi icon"

Just helps me categorize and ensure it's catered by our test conditions.

@kiwifan Simply logging out, clearing the cache and restarting the browser and re-logging in didn't work for me. I finally had success when I enabled 3rd party cookies in my browser settings and disabled an extension (umatrix). Then I logged in again and no probs after that.

For me, the regular dropouts last about 15 seconds. The wireless connection itself seems uninterrupted - isn't not being disconnected. The web browser on my PC or phone merely complain that there is no internet.

Unrelated perhaps, but the Smart Modem logs show a LOT of these entries today (a lot!!):
May 21 07:10:59 VRV9517 daemon.warn miniupnpd[22332]: upnp_event_process_notify: connect(192.168.100.130:2869): Connection timed out

This IP address isn't assigned to anything on my network.

I am seeing very strange rapid DNS lease dropping and instantly reconnecting on my log, and also a reported possible DNS-rebind attack?

I am also suspicious that the DHCP address reclaiming may be behind why my solar system is no longer communicating properly to the internet, even though it is connected via ethernet cable. When it isn't too disruptive to my family I will swap my ER-X back in as a router and see if that gets the solar system back on line again, and report back.

Just wondering, I thought I read earlier in this thread that someone turned off band steering and the dhcp/drop out issue subsided. Did I read this correctly?

@hio77 since you are able to replicate the problem and are working on a solution are there any work around tips that you think may help in the interim? DHCP seems stable for wired clients btw.

As others have mentioned. You should be doing dhcp on your edge router.

Not really... There are possible workarounds such as extending the lease time but I haven't ventured towards these as it would mitigate rather than fix.

Tonight is the first time I've been able to very regularly get the dhcp issue happening between clients in mesh and moving around which probably answers the question of cause. Sadly I wasn't pcapping at the time and soon as I started partner moved her laptop slightly closer.
Windows 7 machines seem to replicate it more than other devices.
I highly suspect this has to do with the same issue noted for broadcast traffic though which would make sense with what is seen in the logs.

If so I can probably pull the lease timer right down to replicate more often.

I'm currently chasing the issue where all devices stop working.

Is it just mesh unit or does smart modem on its own have same issue?

I only have the smart modem without the mesh, and did have the DHCP lease problem. I have not noticed DHCP problems since I turned off band steering - probably two weeks ago.  This does not mean that much on its own as it is as likely to be coincidence as anything.

Thanks, give us an update end of next week because if you haven’t had the issue in three weeks you might be onto something.

HELP!!

I have set up the ER-X which is working fine, but cannot get the Smart modem working. I have turned off DHCP and NAT. That didn't work. Then I discovered the WAN setting page and switched on bridge, and now I cannot even see the Smart modem anymore!! I might have to reset it and start from scratch. Did I also need to disable the VLAN etc??

Appreciate some specific instructions for that WAN page to properly enable bridge mode.

When you say " I have turned off DHCP and NAT" I assume you mean on the Smart Modem? What do you mean by "That didn't work"? Where you able to access the Smart Modem?  Or was it problems with DHCP allocations?

FYI I have not changed anything on the WAN page.  Actually I cannot even see an option for Bridge Mode on WAN settings.  Can you screenshot the page?

I turned off DHCP and NAT in the appropriate tabs on the Smart modem, but when I switched off and on again, I cannot access the internet through the wifi (and light is red), even though when I am ethernet connected to the ER-X I have internet. So I then found that I could edit the WAN connection on the WAN page and turned on Bridge mode from PPPoE, saved and switched Smart modem off then on, and although the light is now green instead of red, I still cannot access the internet over wifi

So I am really stuck...
