I've been speaking with someone from the "Operational Regulatory Group" within Telecom and I've got no doubt we will be able to get the customer sorted out. I'm just waiting for an email with all their details.

21brandon21: Ask for compensation. Get some money for illegally changing providers without your consent. Seek advice from a Lawyer.

Why are there these people out there who at the drop of a hat think they're entitled to money when something doesn't going their own way? More worried about money rather than getting a result! Is it greed? Is it a belief we are a state of America? Or is it just the youth mentality these days - "The world owes me..."

You comments don't help the OP.

Now stepping off my soap box.

If they did get fined and do a pay out for this kind of mistake, it would soon stop that error from happening.

Maybe in the future once it had happened a few times, but it doesn't help the OP right now who is desperately trying to stop the move before it happens.

I suspect that NonprayingMantis and freitasm may be correct about this though...

They should be entitled to something, as should the losing telco for all the time wasted on this.

If a negligent party digs up a phone cable and cuts a business off, they are liable for heaps. why should negligence or fraud in the virtual or financial domains get off the hook for nothing?

The OP was after an immediate resolve to the situation - to stop it happening - not an immediate cash handout!

I do agree that ultimately there should be financial penalties against those responsible - but that is not what the OP was after right at this point.

The way that 21brandon21 came across about it all being about money just rubbed me the wrong way - and they added no value to immediate problem.

The effected telco should be able to provide an immediate resolution eg mobile broadband etc confident they will be able to recover the costs from the telco acting fraudulently, failing them doing it, the customer should be able to get all their resulting costs from the fraudulent telco.

If that was happening then there would be an immediate resolution. As the customer has no contract with the fraudulent telco then all the disclaimers and out clauses in their contract mean nothing, so IMO fire up the 3G stick and then take the other telco to disputes for all the costs and then some if they wont play ball.

Oh, I agree.

Some how a crazy situation has allowed to be created where Chorus co-ordinate it all, but won't release information to the affect parties (in this case Telecom and the Customer).

Wouldn't the police just laugh at you?

I couldn't even get them to take the theft of my car seriously.

No, they would not laugh

I wouldn't bet on that. I essentially got laughed at when my neighbour threatened to kill me after I spoke to him about trashing our letterbox. This was an escalation of threats that, as far as I can tell, stemmed from me having the audacity to question the father over a beer bottle thrown at our house not long after we moved in.

When I went down to the police station to report this, the officer was not interested in dealing with me at all. When I asked what I could do to ensure the safety of my family, his response was "Move".

Guys, Peter from Telecom here - want to advise that we reached a resolution with the customer yesterday morning, and want to apologise for any inconvenience that's been caused.

Deliberate or accidental slamming causes customers considerable inconvenience and upset and casts our industry in a very bad light.  Telecom takes a very dim view of slamming and support every effort to weed it out of our industry.  If any Telecom customers experience slamming we welcome them to contact us directly to allow full investigation into the incident.

Can you say what caused it? Forcibly taken by another provider? or initiated by an authorised person, but not the OP?

To all those in geekzone who offered help and advice, particularly plambrechtsen, our "slamming" has been resolved. We had not in fact been slammed, another service provider had incorrectly and accidentally taken our number and placed it against another account with a similar address.

Once again many thanks to all you geekzoners! You lot ROCK!
