You wouldnt expect the Power Providers or the Power Lines Companys to rewire or extend the house wireing when you want to change the service they deliver eg 1 phase to 3 because that might be economicaly better - then why do people expect the Communications Retail Service providers or one of the Network Companies (even if it is the biggest) to do the same for communications cableing?

If the power company only did half of an install because they had not got their act together with providing a complete service despite knowing for close to a decade that they would need to have it sorted, then I would expect them to come back and finish the job that they should have done at installation time.

To expect spark customers to pay to get the wiring sorted out now that they have to move to fiber landline instead of copper is just rude.

Now just supposing that Spark never do get around to have someone finish the job here is there anything I should know about connecting my house wiring to the POTS socket on the ONT?  Of course I would cut the house wiring where it connects to the outside world.

To actualy complete the intercconnections at time of install and leave the end customer with no phone service at all,  because they wernt cuting over to voip yet would be better ?

BTW this doesnt just apply to Spark Customers - there are many who either choose not to have their lines cut over at the time of install (Split providers of their current services etc) and then request a change or intergration later on.

Im in the process of writeing a quick guide to doing a DIY interconnect of a standard chorus install (as it was done 6mths ago and as its done today) to the legacy house wireing.

I'll have it finished by mid week and ill link it up here for those who want to have a go.

16:50  I thought I should call Spark and see what was happening with the fault reported by customer care last week.  Following their instructions I called 120 using the phone plugged into the ONT.  I selected the 'fault on this number' option and got through to someone who told me they could not help because they are the copper people and the phone has already been changed to fibre!   So they have put me on call back for someone from the fibre division.

I just switched the M-in-Laws phone to fiber phone yesterday for next week.  The email I got back from  Downer implies that the  street connection from the demark point  is going to be left intact  as they say to buy a RJ11 to RJ11  and plug that into the POTS1 port of the ONT and her DECT  set..

I was hoping just to plug a RJ11 into the ONT and a BT into the  BT jack by the ONT (the first street feed jack)  so the the rest of the house could be fed that way  but i suspect if the street cable is still attached there could be noise or worse on the line..  As she only uses cordless phones these days going into the ONT only may be fine..

I received an email yesterday (8th)  18:45 telling me that Chorus were  arranging for a wiring order to be drawn up to have the wiring completed. They will advise  when they will do it.

Nothing heard today.
