I've been wanting one for a while now, in fact I'm sure there are some people on here who are sick of hearing me talk about it ... convincing the person who holds the purse strings is another matter ... not impossible, just not all that easy.

I don't know why so many people use so much data a month??!!

Here at work, where we are working on customers computers all day, updating them, downloading drivers, patches, AV updates etc etc plus all the staff doing whatever they like as there are no restrictions, the techs downloading ISOs from Technet etc, we are lucky if we hit 30GB a month.
Average is around 25GB per month.

The highest we've ever been in about 2 years was 53GB in one month.

Is there something we should be downloading that we don't know about?? :)

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

doozy: ohhh I dunno ... unmetering certain sites ... wouldn't want the cyber police to come and tell me off for net neutrality ... again.

haha ... people don't tend to buy Tivo for simply the unmetered Tivo traffic do they?  I mean there are ... perks to owning one, even if it never makes it out of the box ...

Hah that still hasn't been fixed? Hmm might be worth buying one and switching from Pro to Go...

Don't worry Ragnor, I'm sure that it'll be fixed about 7 minutes after you buy the Tivo :P

My tongue was firmly in cheek - couldn't resist as you said you would get slammed for zero rating traffic. :)

But seriously I don't see why Telecom don't zero rate or close to zero rate traffic which is within Telecom's data centre like youtube and other cached stuff like tivo is.

The only reason I could see is if Telecom thought their users were not savvy enough to work it all out.

Roll on the new plans huh?

It will happen, regardless of the inevitable neutrality discussions.  Unfortunately boring activities like regulation compliance get all the fame and fortune.

Quite easily to accomplish, I watch videos on Fora.tv, YouTube with some going up to 2 1/2 hours. I'll watch maybe 3 of those long videos a day and that is already a gigabyte chewed up, then there is the updates, drivers, software I want try out, random YouTube videos, uploading videos to YouTube etc.

What Xtra needs is a 80GB plan at the current price they're charging for their 40gb, and bump the rest up - its ludicrous that we're living in 2010 and Telecom is charging a price structure as if we were living in the year 2000.

Telecom has it's price structure because, as in 2000, 90% of the internet traffic in 2010 is international. That has changed little and is unlikely to change in the medium to long term. That is a price we are going to have to live with for being isolated at the bottom of the globe.

the prices of international traffic has supposedly gone down, over the past year or so I read on gameplanet.co.nz

That really doesn't address why one is being charged for national bandwidth - why not allow metered free local websites? if the site is locally hosted have some sort of 'logo' the end user can look for to confirm it is unmetered? why don't the ISP's offer a jointly funded 'mirror' project that mirrors high traffic sites to reduce international bandwidth use?
