Because data is a finite resource, minutes/texts are not.

Noodles: Not really over the moon about the new plan. An extra 100 minutes and extra 250MB of data. I probably won't use either of that, I would have preferred a Spotify upgrade.

well I don't need or want spotify so happy with extra minutes and data, after all it is a phone first and foremost smile

Really? So VF are going to announce infinite (AKA unlimited)minutes and texts next since "only data is finite"??

TBH, 2D rollover minutes and unlimited texts already do this for my useage pattern anyway, though this would prolly get the WAF for dropping the landline completely and going 'naked' from about 3 to 10+ in one step :)

It's people like you that are the reason we don't have enough minutes, use your phone for what it was originally designed for, calling!

Vodafone still give us the bare minimum of minutes also i.e you are doing the same thing with minutes as you do data!

Vodafone already have that, it's called Red Plans, and they start from $69 a month on a open term plan.

ummm... I just looked that up and only see it starting at $99 (and 24 months!) with 1.5Gb data?

Oh, Telecom gives you more minutes but now charge part minute rather than per seconds...

So yeah!

I thought they got rid of per second billing ages ago? And how did that work with a minute allocation anyway?
10 minutes = 3.5 minute phone call still shows as 6 minutes left on the balance, was there an invisible 30 second balance there too?

timmmay: In their text what does "plus calls are charged by the minute from 1 Sept" mean? If you make a 1m 20s call what will it count for against your plan? What did it count for before?

My text said " From Sept 1 overseas calls will be  by the minute"  Nothing about local calls..

This is the text I received, verbatim:

FRM TELECOM: We've bumped up your Ultra $39 plan to 400mins + 1.25GB data & still unlimited texts every month. Plus calls are charged by the minute from 1 Sept.

My mate on the $99 Ultra Mobile 24 Month Contract plan didn't notice anything additional as he was already on 1.5GB data with unlimited text and calling.

He got the text about calls being charged by the whole minute from sept for overseas calling, but mine didn't specify whether it was local OR international which made me tweet Telecom to what was actually changing.

The data is a bonus, minutes not so much for me personally. But I'm sure a lot of people will like it. Still grateful tho :D
