Who is supposedly saying this? XT doesn't have anything to do with 900Mhz.

Anyone else wonder how much the ad cost?  I'm thinking a decent amount.

Vodafone = 900MHz GSM, 2100MHz WCDMA in main centres, 900MHz WCDMA outside
Telecom = 850MHz WCDMA with some 2100MHz WCDMA in cities

yea its a classy ad alright, id hate to think how much they spent on it.. Saatchi & Saatchi were involved so that says enough. Then theres broadcast costs, its on every second ad break on primetime at the moment.
Anyways money well spent, its got my attention along with the rest of the country.

Well, it's decided then. I reckon that X2 is the iPhone network, nzcomms are going to be dialup only, and Vodafone's 3G network is teny tiny.

I actually, and I shake my head at this, amusingly enough, is going to go back to a Telecom mobile from Vodafone the month I've been waiting years for, the launch of New Zealand's third mobile network.

Mmmmmmm. broadband in the remote forrest with Hammond stuck in my head. sweet as. And it's getting close.

Can't wait for launch day.

Honestly - MZcomms are stupid. They should have pre-empted this rather they are now going to have to compete with an incrdibly powerful advertising campaign that will probably offer a better service. THat company needs someone to actually drive it, no PR or brand building menas hardly anyone even knows they exist.

This campaign from Telecom is brilliant but I guess thats what you get for hiring the media company they have...

I think it would also be safe to assume that NZ Comms advertising budget would be pitiful compared to Telecom's.  Anyway we are getting off topic now.

Dude... Cheap best flash ad's every day of the week, especially in a country with people so desperate to bring down their mobile bills they carry around two phones, and that big bad scary recession.

The unwashed masses will go with NZ Comm's, great for cheap mobile voice and plenty of it.

Me, with the flash iPhone and unable to run it on Vodafone with any level of reliability are going to ask Hammond for some help with that, and perhaps a ride in his flash car. :)

But people like me and you are the minority. My mum just got a mobile LAST year :-) Go mum!

I agree totally. This can be said about so many threads here on Geekzone. What seems like the only way, the obvious choice, the way something is largely done, etc to us here is generally only a reflection of a very small percentage of the nations population.

We live in our own little world, ain't it great :-)

Wolf in disguise maybe? LOL ..

Would consider seriously of jumping ship even if it means paying out the contract on my data machine and phone... Vodafone's service to its customers is going down hill and their loyality... my sim card has bell south stamped on it... alot of the sales reps dont even know what thats means and how long I have been with the company for..

SHAPE UP VODAFONE!!!

Trying to wrestle this catch-all thread back to its original topic (though I don't hold much hope).

Whoever had the balls at Telecom to approve paying Hammond to front the campaign deserves a standing ovation.

Very slick advertising, and a quantum leap away from the usual cruddy ads that NZ marketers just keep re-hashing over the last two decades (with some notable exceptions of course).

The ad looks very much like a very polished European style ad (Hammond himself obviously contributes greatly to that aspect), but it's very emotive, and like the Jobsian Jesus Phone, plays on peoples emotions, rather than saying "Hello, I am a mobile network with xyz download speed and 97% coverage where you work live and play".

Exciting time for all concerned, except as noted earlier by others - NZ Comms... wow... they have stumbled, as they will now forever live in XT Networks shadow unless they pull a gold plated rabbit out of their collective exit holes.

XT Network = All your base
NZ Comms = pwned

Totally agree...

Just because we are so often right (lol) doesn't mean we represent the majority who are so often wrong (lol).

Meh.

I was planning to switch to the new Telecom network.

But then I realized my beloved Nokia N82 doesnt have UMTS850. And there's no way I'm getting a new phone, no matter how cheap it is.
