Wipeout: Nokia N95 is one of the listed handsets. I understand that the US version will support HSDPA 850 / 1900. Does this mean I can import this model from US (assuming it's unlocked) and be able to use it on Telecom's XT network?

HSDPA on 850Mhz so yes

Wipeout:
35.Will my [handset name/model] connect to XT Network?

If it supports 3G WCDMA 850MHz and is unlocked, chances are it will work fine. However check a non-definitive list of XT Network support.

So my NZ purchased N95 will not work? :(

4.What is the coverage of this new mobile network?

Telecom New Zealand promissed to offer the same of bigger coverage than its current mobile network, covering 97% of the country where New Zealanders are active.

Should this be "same or better coverage"?

Can coverage be expected where there is no current 3G or other cell coverage? I live near Bethels Beach, no Vodafone 3G coverage according to the map online.

I wouldn't count on it, but you never know. The way that they cryptically word this, saying "97% of where NZer's are active" is very suspicious.

Hmmm. No, unless it has 850MHz support (which I think the local model doesn't)

From what I can see on ebay US and Australia, N95 8GB version comes with this option. However none of "plum" or silver N95s have this option, even american version. Feel free to correct me.

@paradoxsm, I've looked at importing one. I think it's save to go with traders who have been on ebay for a long time/good feedback. However I struggled to find any supplier who would ship outside US...

There are no handsets that can do both 850 and 900 3G. Hence manufacturers have handsets that typically do 850+1900+2100 and different models for 900+2100.

Because Vodafone have a 900 3G network in NZ and there is no publically available 850 3G network it's only logical that the 900+2100 models would be sold in NZ.

Yes, seem to be the common thing with eBay hence why I still don't have one.

I'd ask for the "RM" code and also the "product code" and see if you can reference the device against one of the many lists on the web.

There is:

N95-1 "Vodafone version" 2100MHz umts (not for XT)
The Classic model we all know and love, lens cover, smaller battery.

N95-2 8GB black model, 2100MHz umts (not for XT)
An update to N95-1 with more memory, but with larger and crappier screen, 8GB memory instead of MicroSD card slot, larger battery/casing and no lens cover.

N95-3 NorthAmericanModel "AT&T version" 850MHz umts
N95-1 front with a N95-2 back, also has the more memory of the first 8GB version and shares the same backplate with no lens cover but retains the SD slot.

N95-4 NorthAmericanModel "AT&T version" 850MHz umts 8GB version
N95-2 (black 8GB) with the 850MHz bands

"China version" no 3G or WiFi, avoid this pile of junk like the plague.

Hi, you know how all vodafone mobiles are apparently unlocked, does this include the iPhone 3G and will it work fully without any hacking on telecom xt?

Thanks

The iPhone 3G sold through New Zealand is not locked and will work just fine.
