New Telcos "can" make money with ULL, building thier own networks would take 5-8 years or more I believe, before they see any profit.
sbiddle: The only hope we've ever got of LLU in New Zealand is a free trade agreement with the USA. It would then be a requirement for us to offer it as it's termed as anti-competitive!
Nz_Dude: Ok then,
Vodafone’s wcdma is considered to be broadband yet I don’t see them making it a home broadband solution so why isn’t this happening. You want telecom to offer super cheap broadband why not write to the commerce commission and say you want voda to offer 1 GB cap for $30 a month. So I guess this makes voda greedy doesn’t it.

simon_nz90:
Vodafones network is for mobile phone use, it's not designed for home broadband computer use so dont compare it with telecom.
sbiddle: Maybe you could tell Vodafone this - last year Vodafone Germany launched a home router with FXS interface so you can use Vodafone 3G as your broadband connection and hook up your home phones to a cellular gateway. Several other networks in Europe are all using the same device.Or this Linksys box...

freitasm: Certainly not for online gaming - but it's great for teams in a project when out of the office, consultants, etc... It can be used as an Internet access box for home users, but it's way more expensive than fixed line alternatives I think.

freitasm: Just in case you need to know, Telecom New Zealand does have a box that acts as a CDMA EV-DO -> Wi-Fi router (exactly like the Vodafone one). I am trying to get one for review, but we used it already during the Geekzone Dinner here in Wellington - very handy (and faster)...
Grantis:Yes, and no. Data is more expensive, but the network coverage and the fact that the fallback to 1xRTT is faster than the fallback to GPRS may be compelling reason to decide on one over another.freitasm: Just in case you need to know, Telecom New Zealand does have a box that acts as a CDMA EV-DO -> Wi-Fi router (exactly like the Vodafone one). Also FAR more expensive, but thanks for information anyway.
