Four comments from me:

1/ As the usage information is then used for Billing & Rating, what level of confidence should Customers have that the usage meter is reliable and accurate?

2/ Id' be surprised if the fault was known without a Customer reporting it and triggering an investigation. Was this the case here?

3/ How many usage meter issues are acceptable annually?

1?
4?
0?

4/ How many Informers/Notifications have Telecom Product Managers sent out to 123 and Customer Care channels over the last 8 years about usage meter issues? (I could tell, but I'd get fired).

Me (smiley face :)

I use a Apple Imac, only computer in the house.

The activity monitor on my mac says I have downloaded 2.83GB since the computer was switched on yesterday, however the Telecom usage meter shows a combined total of 10981MB over the 2 days.

I thought the usage meter was fixed?

All other days appear normal with under 1GB usage per day.

Can anyone offer advice?

Hamish from Telecom called to advise that case had been handed to him and he had passed the data over to alcatel. As the 3 places they measured usage all agreed with the usage meter. He gave me his dd # and said he would update me when they had a response from Alcatel
cheers

If you can get the hourly stats from Telecom it can highlight whether the usage is a sudden large jump (well beyond DSL speeds) or spread over a more extended period (then harder to address). An observation I made last time was my ping times to one of their hops changed around the time of the recorded usage which makes me wonder if some of these issues are network topology changes, perhaps trying to use different counters. I was told one person was allocated 120GB over that short period.
This thread is also about much smaller errors that seem to be totally different mechanism.

yeah I can get hourly ststs from the modem and the software I use but not the usage meter... I was wondering if it was something to do with redundancy and the same data going 2 different paths one being dumped and then both being counted. not a consistant amount or % being recorded to give any hints either has varied from -1% (when there was a large power outage) to 142% extra added over the last 70 odd days. But seems to be between 22% and 50% usually and around 36% average so on My 60G plan we get to use just over 40G

HI again
Hamish from telecom has been calling me regularly, nice to know that we havn't been forgotten and to be kept informed. Anyway, he called and advised that alcatel couldn't find any obvious issues and had sent it on to a special team for investigation and gave a date of about 28th april for a result? Well at least things are moving forward and they havn't come back telling me I'm measuring the wrong thing:-)

Checked my Usage last night, I had 20GB left to last 5 more days, so I downloaded 10.66GB of files, now according to the usage meter i have 600mb of usage left.
In the days before this I only downloaded about 3-4GB so its not 'catching up'

But since I have no proof, nothing I can do but be capped! Yell

you should of installed bmextreme before downloading and configed it to ingore lan traffic but leave udp then could of been sure how much you really downloaded.

if you use utorrent to download gturn on the columns by right clicking on columns and turning on remaining, completed and downloaded

often clients can download more then what was expected... if seeders and peers start sharing a 1mb chunk and hit and run before completing you hav to get the chunk again from someone else

All Downloads were via HTTP and I never use Torrents so my traffic spike wasnt caused by torrents,
I dont even have any torrent or sharing programs installed
