True, but, I was expecting more so am disappointed. But, thats life, I'll get on with it and join Orcon who are really the only choice.

Even if they were offering plans in tauranga, they are uncompetitive compared with Orcon / Snap.

well snap is irrelevant to you since they dont sell UFB in Taurange either.

And Orcon is slightly cheaper for the equivalent kind of plan ($89 for 60GB vs Telecom $95 for 50GB), although the Telecom one uses PSTN whereas Orcon is VOIP.

And Telecom have almost always been abit more expensive than other ISPs forthe same level of datacap, so not sure why you are surprised at that either.

SNAP have a VoIP offering too that they do over UFB, it's not using the Voice ATA component of the ONT which has a certain level of SLAs around it (and associated cost) it's an Internet VoIP stack. Again a completely different product than what Telecom is offering (as you rightfully said NonprayingMantis)

If it's for a long time then basically you are getting unlimited UFB for $95

On the face it I'm bitterly dissapointed. Did not want to see any data capped plans coming out today.

Should have been the new go large/bigtime, either undercutting Orcon/Slingshot/etc uncapped plan pricing or offering better guaranteed better service at the same pricepoint.

They say a 30 day notice will be sent out when this changes.

EOL & Trustpower are the only local residential options right now.

Full Flavour (my company) is making Tauranga our priority UFB market with unmetered data plans that fit in between the Orcon and Telecom pricing levels.

If you'd like to be one of our first residential customers (we've got a number of VDSL business customers which we'll be moving to UFB straight away) send me a PM and we can work something out.

All going well, we go live with UFB in May.

I read an interview with the CEO(?) of Telecom where they made it quote clear that data caps is a core part of their business model - in similar to fashion to electricity... You use data, you pay for it. You need more? You pay more...

Telecom Ultra Fibre will be available to customers in the Chorus footprint initially due to the fact they’re by far the largest UFB partner with nearly 70% of the UFB market. The existing Chorus footprint where Telecom Ultra Fibre will be available covers parts of Auckland as well as Blenheim, Dunedin, Hastings, Levin, Napier, Nelson, Palmerston North, Queenstown, Rotorua, Timaru and Wellington. Ashburton, Masterton, Taupo and Invercargill can expect Ultra Fibre within the next few months, with further regions in line with Chorus’ roll-out plans.

I'm not sure what it means about being "in line with Chorus' plans". I'm in Whakatane, fibre is being rolled out by Chorus, and there are already several streets that seem to be complete. Yet there's no mention of Whakatane in that list...

Edit: With that said, I'm not complaining about the pricing etc. I'd sign up tomorrow if I could (I'll certainly try to!)

I could tell from the entry level plan that the remainder would be disappointing. And, they are disappointing to me. I expected telecom to do better.

Anyway, Tauranga need not apply and there is only some vague promise that they need to do further 'testing' (what has telecom been doing the last year??).

I understand telecom want to guarantee a certain level of service, but, they have offered ADSL caps for UFB products.

After my UFB 12 month contract runs out, Telecom 'might' be available here and I'll re-evaluate then.

Or, are Orcon such rubbish that I shouldn't bother?

That is a positive. I'm glad they won't be offering small businesses a 30/10 plan. Waste of time.
