Telecom issued a press release late yesterday warning of another phishing variation on the hacked accounts.

"Telecom Retail Chief Executive Chris Quin is today warning Yahoo Xtra customers about a spam email that has been sent to some Yahoo Xtra email accounts. The email claims to be from the Yahoo Security Department and asks customers to download an attached file in order to verify their account, but Mr Quin says the message is not from Yahoo or from Telecom and that the attachment may be malicious."

When you have 1 million+ hacked email accounts to play with, there are many different ways to exploit and monetise your asset.

Perhaps re running their last captured address book data more just to get people thinking that this malware mail out is legitimate?

I like it how they talk about "your own email address" with gmail or outlook. What happens if either of those mail domains are ever shutdown?

I would say as MS and Google are two of the largest corps in the world the likely hood of that ever happening is about the same as me or you seeing our sun go supernova in our lifetimes

Until one of them gets bought by facebook or similar. Things change, and often quickly.

Get a domain. They are cheap as chips now unless you want one from a small island nation you have never heard of and only get it because of the last 2 letters matching your name.

considering I've had my hotmail now outlook account for over 14yrs I don't think MS are going to sell it off anytime soon and the only reason I have a gmail account was because my phone and tablet are android and require one for use other than that I don't or very rarely use it

Heh this is exactly what I did of course! I had never heard of São Tomé and Príncipe. Best €125 (5 years rego) I've spent.

My semi disposable yahoo got done the same as others. Unauthorised access from Russia. But I didn't post here as it wasn't my xtra one to add fuel to the fire.

So this appears to be yet another full breach on the platform not just yahoo or just xtra. Sigh

Deleted my ymail account today. I'd forgotten it was there until I received spam from it. Now I feel stupid for having the account, and worse for the fact it had 92 contacts on it...
