As many others have rightfully pointed out you're not stuck with Spark - if you don't like their price increase then just vote with your feet and move to another ISP. There are plenty of other providers out there.

Spark should be delivering the best value to their owners, and if increasing the cost either gets them more money, or makes these higher costs to service customers move to whoever is cheaper so they are no longer subsidized by the fiber customers then that is a good thing.

Everyone sells for about the same because of competition. If you do not like sparks pricing then go for someone that is a few bucks cheaper per month and may have a better or worse service. That is the wonderful thing with competition like we have here.

Someone correct me if I am wrong. But Skinny haven't introduced a higher charge for their copper customers over fibre customers. Is there any reason why they didn't change Skinny prices (which arguably have a tighter margin than Spark plans).

Skinny also have a very different support structure and no PSTN component.

Skinny's market positioning is to be the cheapest.

I suspect that skinnys "you must use our router" goes a long way to reducing the number of people with performance complaints from random old junk they were given by a friend or needing help with why their 12 antenna overpriced gaming piece of crap router is slower than their other one etc.

Plus they would be able to pull the stats to see whats going on etc.

i don't cary quantitative metrics for skinny on the top of my head, but I've got it on good authority that your suspsions are on ball.

There are two brands of devices out there that i wish were not as prevalent; Asus and Netgear.

While both do decent products, they have some odd quirks that lead in certain conditions leads to more faults than your average hg659.

surprisingly dlink over the years seems to have gotten back to being rock solid? that or they just arent bought anymore..
