Yeah the N82 is hard to beat, I still adore my N95, N82 would be the logical choice IF it had the 850/90 band support! I really don't fancy much after that came out.

Gold.

Who cares about Hammond? Vodafone have Lewis Hamilton!

Hammond isn't devoid of personality though.

With the launch as close as it is, do we have any idea how Telecom is going to integrate the brand into their regular operations? Is it going to start off like Xtra did initially with Telecom billing it as a separate company but the invoice still turning up with Telecom on the top, or are they going to segregate things?

i beleive it will be billed as it is now. i have seen a sim and it had telecom on it not xt network, which seems abit strange as i thought they would have branded it XT, unless they just are branding xt and those sims were for the prelaunch. And no it wasnt a roaming/worldmode sim.

Telecom has been quoted in msm as saying that pre-launch stuff has no Telecom brand, basically as a marketing ploy to build up interest.

Expect to see Telecoms very powerful and long-standing brand all over this later on.

I have seen a Telecom SIM with the Telecom logo on it, and not XT. (Not a roaming SIM either).

Probably just a pre-launch brand.

yea its a classy ad alright, id hate to think how much they spent on it.. Saatchi & Saatchi were involved so that says enough. Then theres broadcast costs, its on every second ad break on primetime at the moment.
Anyways money well spent, its got my attention along with the rest of the country.

You know I'm constantly surprised how many of you have seen the ad, would have thought most of us 'geeks' would be skipping ads with our PVRs or have better things to do than watch TV. Tongue out

ps: Haven't seen the ad yet, only found out about it via geekzone Wink

Use butter, not oil.

And why wait for breakfast? Crumpets are an anytime food!

Telecom's logo is a bit big, bright and colourful to go onto a black handset IMO, whereas I quite like the look of the XT one. And if it's put on during, rather than post production like some of the other models, I won't be able to buff it off with a dremel like the Vodafone ones :)

Good call!! Tonight it is!!

Crumpet Toast is ****

I think XT Network should have done a co-branding thing with Golden Crumpets.

It would at least have made my comments on topic.

tonyhughes: Very slick advertising, and a quantum leap away from the usual cruddy ads that NZ marketers just keep re-hashing over the last two decades (with some notable exceptions of course).

The ad looks very much like a very polished European style ad (Hammond himself obviously contributes greatly to that aspect), but it's very emotive, and like the Jobsian Jesus Phone, plays on peoples emotions, rather than saying "Hello, I am a mobile network with xyz download speed and 97% coverage where you work live and play".

There's no accounting for taste, but is this ad realistically going to get the same kudos that the fold-up-and-go ads have done for Vodafone?

This ad's strength is its positioning and differentiation. It says: "Vodafone is for metrosexuals. Do you really want Jeremy Clarkson to call you a gayboy?" It has an enterprise feel, and should appeal to corporate types who think hybrid cars are for pussies.

As soon as telecom is up and running, my vodafone services are going to be dumped.

Vodafone customer service is just so bad.  I've spent thousands of dollars on vodafone over the last few years.

Yet, they stop sending me invoices, then cut off my phone for not paying the invoice.

This is the basic conversation I had with them...

Me: Why did you cut off my phone.

Vodafone: Your credit card payments bounced.

Me: My last card expired, I phoned you 2 months ago.  You wouldn't take my new credit card details over the phone (unlike my other utilities). So, you sent me a letter which I returned to you immediately.

Vodafone: We didn't process your new credit card details in time.

Me: Well, how was I supposed to know this, you don't send out invoices?

Vodafone: Ahhhh.... Not sure..... Uhhh, we'll reconnect your phone if you make a one off payment.

Me: OK, just put it through on my new credit card.

Vodafone: Your phone will be reconnected in 5 minutes.

12 hours later, phone still not connected, new call to vodafone.

Me: why is my phone not connected.

Vodafone: Your credit card payment bounced..............

Me: here we go again.

These guys are useless. I opened up the vodafone v.box thing, but it is absolute rubbish. Special offers are just junk mail like you get in the mail. Nothing special at all.

I've had so many credit card hassles with these clowns. They had some stupid rule where you cannot have the same credit card on more than a single phone. This caused me heaps of hassles doing prepaid topups.

I have to say. Vodafone NZ have some of the worst customer service in the world.   Not sure if telecom will be better, but , I've had enough of vodafone. Thanks telecom, for the rescue.

Telecom customer service has always been good, there have been anomalies, but Telecom have the systems in place to make sure things like a customers phone isn't broken for a week, or bills don't just stop turning up.

I've always complained that Telecom was expensive, but looking back, every other telco I moved to which was cheaper/better/shinyier then had problems, and ususally of a systemic nature. (TelstraClear billing, XNET speeds, slingshot customer support, Woosh network design, Vodafone 3G/customer support/billing)

Vodafone in paticular seems in NZ at least to not know how a big Telco works, and they seem to just be making it up as they go along and getting it wrong, or finding out why others don't do it like that.

I look around at the surging of people in years past to the latest/bestest ISP which changes every year because last years bestest ISP is now broken while Telecom Xtra deliver a consistent (albert expensive) internet experience month in month out.

Telecom I now believe is like that boring old Uncle which gets paid more than the young bucks, but gets up every morning without fail to go to work.
