Well with $15 spent on a new network card, and some new thermal paste to reset CPU cooler after a good clean, at 3:20pm in the arvo I am happy with this kind of result off my 9 year old rig haha

That's a huge improvement :-) Out if interest can you confirm the network card you added in please? And apart from that and the new thermal paste on the CPU - did you change anything else?

(Looks like a textbook case of unexpectedly underpowered NIC)

The TPLink TG-3468 and thermal paste is the only change, same cables, same modem (HG659B).

Quick and cheap fix to get a huge increase, makes me happy I moved on up to this plan..... Now to find a use for this kind of speed haha

I'mafraid the only use for this kinda speed is to try to get a speedtest that shows >900/>400

or watch youtube at 4K with no lag no matter where you click on the timeline ... (but one can do that on the 200 plan)

Actually.... I just remembered one thing different and confirmed it while swapping between MB Lan port and the PCI Ex card port.

While testing in chrome my best original speed posted a couple days ago of 280ish Mbps, and then testing on new card in chrome is about the same. The test above was done in Edge, When swapping between the ports using Edge it jumps to original port best of 450ish Mbps at 10pm tonight, and best of 850ish Mbps on new card.

So in my testing found Chrome wasnt give solid results, but I was able to constantly get 800ish on New card using Edge and Firefox, and about 450ish on old using Edge or Firefox.

Thanks for that - this is a consistent theme actually... Not the specifics about the browsers, but the fact that performance can vary by hundreds of percent between different browsers on one machine. My machine in fact (Hex core 3.xGhz Xeon) performs well with chrome and edge, but but with firefox (!?) while another machine I have here (i7) is great on only chrome.

Just another example of things that make testing Max speed Fibre so challenging!

Thanks for reporting back though - regardless of the browser issues it seems the new card has really helped!

Did I also mention that on two of my i-devices my iOS app gave really shockingly low "speed" tests.

1x fixed by "reset network settings"

1x fixed ONLY by deleting and reinstalling the "app"

Some tips for your CSR flowchart other than turn off the device and restart :)

Just tried out the Fibre MAX since the upgrade was activated today. I am well impressed. Here's a test using my aging work laptop. I didn't even bother kicking the kids off YouTube.

Not that I needed the MAX plan, but the 60fps MLB games on MLB.TV look amazing on the big TV!

It looks like Spark have signed up to the new Custom Speedtest HTML5 beta page.

Shame that it doesn't seem to always default to the Spark servers but you can select it via the bottom option. It seems to work nicely and is rather purdy without the nasty ad's.
