JermCool: We're talking about Telecom. Most of that is probably headed to another addle-brained marketing scheme.

Personally I think Telecoms marketing lately has been pretty good - certainly their profits reflect something going right.

They are supposed to be moving up to a IP-based exchange system in the very near future. But I am a huge cynic when it comes to anything planned by Telecom. They've successfully managed to disappoint me at just about every turn.

Are you saying you dont think it will perform adequately? Initial testing has produced some very positive results by the sound of things.

It's easy to make a profit when you can hold your competition to ransom. *insert snicker here*

Their marketing is totally off-topic when gearing toward businesses. In comparison to Voda's "Mobilize" campaign, the Telecom marketing team should be flogged repeatedly. Sure the kids are cute on T3G, but how do those new phone features help my company? Sure the XTRA-Ordinaries are funny, but how does broadband increase my company's productivity? Show me something relevant!

I don't doubt it. CDMA showed very promising results to start and the rollout was a mess! Telecom promised one-week turnarounds with their new self-operated service center. They're now operating at the same speed as the third-party service center they used to use. What they say will happen and what does happen are two very different things when it comes to Telecom.

And don't get me started on what happens in Southland during a digital-network outage. Ever see someone's face when they lose their CDMA phone, ADSL connection, ISDN lines, and their Paymark EFTPOS terminal all at once? I've seen it more than once and trust me - it ain't purdy. And I'd bet my bottom dollar that the IP-based voice network would go right down with the rest of the digital networks. And it will happen again.
