SSL connections, secure connections to newsgroups, https to gmail and any other overseas site all seem to be having problems, so its not just VOIP. And those problems occur 24 hours a day, for the past 3 weeks.

My GMail and other https connections started working a few days ago, although Facebook is now affected for some reason.

I'm on a facebook break so haven't used it in a week or so, gmail has been ok tonight. The only think I've had trouble with (and the only think I've really be using) is https connection to my education provider in australia which has been timing out a lot, not enough to cause mayhem as its only loading up the occasional PDF, but still noticable.

I'll try it again in the morning as it could be an onpeak throttling thing.

If you're asking me, steam. I've got the new beta with the new UI installed, which is why it looks different.

Titan quest downloaded last night, then I started the expansion this morning. I'd say for most of the day it wasn't downloading at all (or less than 2kb/s, which appears to be the lowest speed it shows in the games list.

When I switched to big time in December, steam would download updates at up to 800kb/s. These days I'm lucky if I can log in.

I tested Newsgroups just before I went to bed last night, so at around 930pm I was 8x the speed I am getting now. It is now 6:09am and its going slow.

WTF Telecom? Why is it slower in offpeak??

Could be a router problem? Out of all the gear I've had over the past few years, routers are the items I've found most likely to fail. Or the light going out could be related to the line work you're allegedly getting?

Yea agree I have gone through more than 5 routers over the past 10 years that I have access to DSL so that doesn't surprise me.

Allegedly is right! will be ringing Telecom this morning to find out what is going on.

I was unable to login to Steam or download new podcasts via iTunes this morning.

I am still using the supplied speedtouch with my bigtime plan. The interesting thing is that the router is unable to resolve the hardcoded Telecom DNS addresses.

One of the drawcards to BigTime was the large data to allow the proper use of Steam as I did not buy a DVD drive for my new PC as I'm turnin my back on optical media.

this is a slap in the face!

Yeah, it's always been 2am-8am.

As an update on the slowest steam update possible, it got up to 80 kb/s while I left it going last night, currently running at 27 kb/s. I've also had a far easier time of logging in to steam, loading games without it crashing etc, since I upgraded to the Beta UI.

Also, googling (googleing?) the problems I was having suggests it's a result of traffic shaping, since others with similar problems worked out that's what it was for them. Also found that people had far better experiences with steam while being traffic shaped if they upgraded to the beta UI. But uh.... Do it during off peak, because (in my experience at least) it's shaped so hard the update keeps timing out and you're stuck with no steam for a day.
