Talkiet: Youtube (Google) keeps their videos all over the place - so depending on how popular (and how popular in what Geo area) a video is, it might come from NZ, AU, Asia, the US or Europe. The trick I pointed out above for disabling DASH playback is helpful if you want to view a slow (downloading) hidef video in that you can start and pause, then wait for it to buffer enough....
It is only a band aid though - I'll ask around and see if there's anything we can do on our end... We are however limited in what we can do when it comes to individual providers and their choice of where to serve from.

would be great Neil if there is something that can be done as now its Monday and good old youtube is now unwatchable - ie: it cant stream a vid in 480 without stuttering and pausing. Previously on DSL it wasnt this bad.
Maybe its heavier network traffic with people back at work and im in the city area ? Also interestingly the speed test is down to 19mb from a peak of 40mb +.
Why the variation ? is it a characterisitic of VDSL ? VDSL seems to me like having a fast car but with a very slow 0-100k time and unfortunately its the 0-100 where i spend most of my time.
any help would be appreciated as the wife is breathing fire at me (she watches her countries tv programs on YT every night)

You are testing over an ethernet connection, not wireless, right? Just making sure...
I have had no problem streaming anything off Youtube, even some fairly niche stuff.

i think andrew027 have problems with something else, i think it's not router trouble. Also check your site, there can be a lot of wireless points and they can create a collision, try to change channel or frequency. I have found that tompson routers which telecom given on 2009-2011 connections configured for channel 6 of 802.11b/g. In central city(for example apartment building): there are HEAPS of access points with channel 6 configured, if you will use channel 6 you will have bad performance, if you will use channel 1-3, you will have much better performance, up to 70% better. So same problem can be with your wifi connection.
And basically wireless is $hit, use cables.

not bad at all. ping seems abit high to that part of the country, try Auckland speedtest servers.

l43a2: honest opinion, get another router for wireless.
