the vdsl jack point has no phone line. don't plug your phone into it. you have to hope you have another phone jack in your house.

when you say master filter you mean the jackpoint in which the vdsl is plugged into ?  that is the only point of entry or point in the apartment

So do I mount a phone jackpoint next to the vdsl point and wire it into the back of it, I have no idea of the wiring schematics and a quick google on it gets confusing

Strange though I would have thought that seeing there is a phone number provided with the vdsl connection that the installation would have included a facility to plug a phone into ?

I have an idea. Call up telecom to say their vdsl install broke your phone line hopefully they will come and give you a phone line

Master filter is a black rectangle box at the first point of entry of copper into your place. The box splits the copper into broadband and phone. So that thevdsl Jack only has broadband no phone. Not sure where your master filter is sorry I am not psychic ...

If you are in an apartment its possible the filter was installed into the MDF (if the building has one), and since you had no existing phone number the cable was reused for the VDSL socket only.
You're best to get a technician out to look at it if you don't know exactly where the cable goes or where the filter is.  Were you home when they did the install?

anyway thanks for your help guys but its in the too hard/dont really need basket right now - the mobile will suffice

Just wondering the TG589vn bridge to a wireless router.
If the wireless router reboot itself will it affect the DLM?

I'm assuming the question is if I have my TG589vn bridging to a wireless router and the wireless router reboots will it effect my DLM profile to which the answer is no. The wireless router you have bridged to is just handling the distribution of the connection. The TG589vn will continue to manage the DLM independent of the wireless router.

Thought I'd give my experience of VDSL installation process. Did a very small amount of reading last Friday and decided on VDSL as my connection here is slow, no I don't have master filter.

Logged into 'my telecom'and went to chat, chatted to a person about what when and how and was told if I was interested they would sort a çall back'. Had a ring an hour later and was singed up after a short period of time. Booked installation for today and organised pickup of VDSL modem as I am not normally at home.

Got a text letting me know what was happening and also email notification. Was told to be home today as not sure when tech would arrive. About 9:30 this morning 2 techs arrived, very polite and well presented, an hour later all hooked up and was informed that would take about 1-2 hours for telco (Telecom) to switch on.

Got home about an hour ago and its working well and very pleased with speed over what I had so thanks Telecom and Chorus you did a great job.

What sort of speed are you getting now?  Would you mind to do a speed test and post modem stats?

Hi pbee50,

The Chorus technician should have checked if there were any other jackpoints in your apartment before replacing the only jackpoint with an RJ45 outlet.
If you are a Telecom customer, can you please send me a personal message with your phone and/or account number or even just your address? I will chase this up for you. We will need to get the tech to go back and install the correct faceplate on the jackpoint that has RJ45 for VDSL and a BT plug you can use for your phone.

From page 80

littleheaven: Telnet to your modem and look up the stats. I'm repeating advice I was given on how to do it:

stitch:To enable telnet go to control panel, programs and features, turn windows features on or off, enable Telnet from the list. Open a command prompt, type telnet 192.168.1.254 enter
Put username and password. Once logged on type xdsl info expand=enabled

And once you've done that, compare to table below, which I have copied from a previous post (thanks for providing, Amosnz).

DLM-1 1ms 0INP
DLM-2 8ms 0INP
DLM-4 8ms 1INP
DLM-6 8ms 2INP
DLM-3 16ms 0INP
DLM-5 16ms 1INP
DLM-7 16ms 2INP
DLM-8 16ms 4INP
