User name is "Administrator" (mind the capital A), and password is blank.

joker97: the vdsl jack point has no phone line. don't plug your phone into it. you have to hope you have another phone jack in your house.

ahhh i see - thanks for that - had no idea

unfortunately in the small apartment there is no other jackpoint - guess i have to stick with the mobile

Hi pbee50,

The Chorus technician should have checked if there were any other jackpoints in your apartment before replacing the only jackpoint with an RJ45 outlet.
If you are a Telecom customer, can you please send me a personal message with your phone and/or account number or even just your address? I will chase this up for you. We will need to get the tech to go back and install the correct faceplate on the jackpoint that has RJ45 for VDSL and a BT plug you can use for your phone.

thanks simon - i actually decided to email telecom and ask them about the situation - their response was excellent - 2 x phone calls from them later and a chorus tech is booked next week to come and install a phone jackpoint next to the vdsl point - quite happy now :)

jeffnz: sure, excuse the noobness but what do I use to get the test and stats

speedtest not sure if right one

From page 80

littleheaven: Telnet to your modem and look up the stats. I'm repeating advice I was given on how to do it:

stitch:To enable telnet go to control panel, programs and features, turn windows features on or off, enable Telnet from the list. Open a command prompt, type telnet 192.168.1.254 enter
Put username and password. Once logged on type xdsl info expand=enabled

And once you've done that, compare to table below, which I have copied from a previous post (thanks for providing, Amosnz).

DLM-1 1ms 0INP
DLM-2 8ms 0INP
DLM-4 8ms 1INP
DLM-6 8ms 2INP
DLM-3 16ms 0INP
DLM-5 16ms 1INP
DLM-7 16ms 2INP
DLM-8 16ms 4INP

I was wondering what DLM I am on as my modem will give me quite strange stats:
My VDSL was connected 8 days ago
My stats:
                       DS               US
INP                  0.5               1.5
Delay               10ms            15ms

It is nothing like 0, 1, 2 or 4 INP or 1ms, 8ms or 16ms...

My speed is - download 30.99Mbps and upload 9.74Mbps. It is measured with ethernet cable plugged in.

Is that normal...?

Thanks

Rocckr: I was successfully able to update the DNS servers on the Technicolor TG589vn V2 via Telnet using Username: Administrator and Password:

Telnet command lines issues as below, where primary DNS is UnoTelly (UnoDNS) and secondary is Telecom.

dns server config state=disabled
dhcp server config state=disabled
dhcp server lease flush
dhcp server pool config name=LAN_private primdns=103.6.212.24 secdns=122.56.237.1
dhcp server config state=enabled
dns client flush
dns client dnsadd addr=103.6.212.24
saveall
exit

Thanks for this info. If I do this to the router (TG589 V2) and I brick the router, will a factory reset bring it back from the dead. I will be using the US Unblock settings  for primdns.

Got VDSL2 installed on Friday, Chorus guys did an amazing job, ten year old brick house with all wiring in the walls and they managed to get the jack exactly where i wanted it with no cable visable anywhere, they somehow piggybacked off the jackpoint in the bedroom on the other side of the wall.

Straight of the bat 48/10mbs, 30ms, 15/6db so not that i know much but stats look pretty good, here's hoping it gets even better

I just did this because my TPLink router which was using the Telecom modem in bridge mode decided to play up.

So I had to reset the Telecom modem, telnet to the modem and set up Unblock-US DNS addresses. Worked fine.

Thanks for confirming this worked. Changed my configuration over the weekend as well. When I set primary DNS to UnoDNS and secondary to Telecom my devices (Apple TV etc) did not for some reason recognise the UnoDNS address so I got the 'Netflix not available in your geographic region" error. When I deleted the secondary DNS and just used the UnoDNS primary DNS Netflix etc worked just fine.

Erm, I believe the first line should be 1 not 0.

What are the details of the section headed "Bearers generic info" and what does your "xDSL Standard" (up the very top) say next to it?

I was thinking that if your bearers were 0 you might not have VDSL line sync, which would explain why your other numbers were all 0, but the 993.2 means VDSL2.
Can you post your full stats equivalent of mine below?

Bearers generic info                        DS             US
Payload rate [Kbps]:                      66722          10332
Attenuation [dB]:                           6.8            14.4
Margins [dB]:                                12.1           30.0
Output power [dBm]:                     10.6           5.1

Number of bearers:                           1
Bearer 0                                     DS             US
INP [DMT symbols]:                    0.00           0.50
Delay [ms]:                                8.00           8.00
Depth []:                                    271            0.00
R:                                              6               0

I had my VDSL installed on Oct 2, so it's now more than 10 days. Just did a broadband test and here's the result:

When I tested it on Oct 2, Latency was 21 ms, Download 29.89, and Up 8.83. So, there's no much improvement. I'm about 200m from the roadside cabinet. Is it quite normal? Thanks.

5ms would suggest you are on DLM1 the lowest latency profile.

Telnet into your modem and grab the sync details (many posts in this thread on how to do it), you are looking for some stuff like my post just above yours.

Thanks Amosnz. I managed to turn on the Telnet client on my Windows 7 machine, open the command box, use ipconfig to find Default Gateway 192.168.1.254, then telnet 192.168.1.254. Here, I got stuck with Username and Password. I've tried (Admin, Admin), (Admin, Password) but they were invalid. Where can I find this pair for my TG589VN modem? I tried the search box on this page but could not find this info (dozens of pages to sort through). Sorry, I'm new and is still finding my way around here.
