Kassey: Thanks Amosnz. I managed to turn on the Telnet client on my Windows 7 machine, open the command box, use ipconfig to find Default Gateway 192.168.1.254, then telnet 192.168.1.254. Here, I got stuck with Username and Password. I've tried (Admin, Admin), (Admin, Password) but they were invalid. Where can I find this pair for my TG589VN modem? I tried the search box on this page but could not find this info (dozens of pages to sort through). Sorry, I'm new and is still finding my way around here.

Hi - username is "Administrator" and password should be blank. Then type: "xdsl info expand=enabled" and should have everything you need.

Not an expert, but it appears to me that you are on the best possible profile. Your latency should be very, very low (5ms or less)and speed optimised for that setting and your connection. Your performance is pretty consistent with mine with close attenuation numbers so seems to be optimised pretty well.

Thats perfect Kassey.

From those stats your line sync is 32mbit, and you're getting 30mbit on the speed test so that's pretty close.
Your downstream attenuation there is 13db, which suggests your a reasonable distance from the exchange\cabinet, so the 30mbit downstream is about right.

Because you are on DLM1 (the lowest latency profile) this is about as good as the connection will get.

Good to know it's as good as the VDSL can give me. Just a bit disappointed that the Chorus guy told me I could get up to 40 Mbps download. Well, it's at least better than the 10 Mbps on my former ADSL, and fiber is coming next year so maybe 100 Mbps next upgrade? I hope. Thanks a lot to you folks for your prompt help. Really appreciate it as a newbie.

No worries. To note, there is a trade-off between latency and overall speed. I had a little over 40 down for a little while with 20ms+ latency, now on about 35 down with 4ms latency. Speed does seem to creep down some as latency (and profile) improves. So, yes line likely capable of 40 down but only on a reduced profile. I'm quite happy with roughly 37 down and 10 up as such a big improvement from ADSL and kids very happy with gaming latency improvement too. Enjoy.

note i'm probably the last house on the copper to be given VDSL but we are happy with higher upload!
this is around day 10 or more.
[originally sync up was 4.5Mbps but Chorus came back to move the jack much further away and now it's dropped a bit]

So far I'm happy with the switch to VDSL. However, I found a new problem. While I have no problem at all visiting most websites, there is a particular website (dnjournal.com) I used to visit regularly. After switching to Telecom's VDSL, I always get the "Connection has timed out" error when I visit this website. I used some services on the Internet to confirm the website is running just fine. Only that I can't access it.

It happens when I use Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Chrome. I'm running Windows 7 and I have tried Microsoft's suggestion to change the hosts file back to its default. No success. Then I read from a forum that someone got this similar problem solved when his ISP did something with the settings to the router.

Can someone from Telecom shed some light on this issue?

had a similar issue, i couldnt load comet chat one one of the forums i frequent. weather it be using FF or IE, on my desktop or laptop it just wouldn't load.

I cleared the cache logged out, rebooted the pc, nothing helped. I resorted to disabling the firewall and the Intruder detection via telnet but still didn't help.

I connected via my phone and it worked fine and went to my sister in law's over the road and it worked fine there too. It worked when i got back from their place as i left the page open but when i browsed to a new page it disappeared.

My friend said i was logged in even though it wasn't displaying on my screen.

The forum upgraded commet chat so it works now but something on the router was defiantly blocking the program from running.
