I see that Chris Bell at NZBC is having issues with the Xtra-supplied D-Link G604T modem/router/switch. He's not the first one either... that particular device seems problematic. I've got one here, and with the original firmware, the WAN connection would die regularly. That turned out to be the dproxy program dying regularly - AJ had a fix for it, which is to login with telnet and do:

/sbin/dproxy -c /etc/resolv.conf -d

This is from memory; I think it's the correct incantation, but check first. Yeah, the G604T is running Linux.

However, upgrading the firmware fixed the dproxy deaths, but brought on another issue: now the router would regularly drop both the WAN and LAN connections for no discernible reason. I haven't had time to get to the bottom of that one yet, and just swapped to a Dynalink modem that arrived from Woosh.

Hmm... the Cisco 827 never behaved like this, nor the Nokia M10/M11s.

Great. I bought one of these for our office in Auckland yesterday, and today I find they're dud. (There's noone in the Auckland office confident enough to get it going if it needs work).

If worked fine all day yesterday but when we arrived this morning noone could connect to the LAN, either via wireless or via ethernet. Turned off and on the power and it came back to life fine.

Yeah I can relate to both of ya there...

I have had the D-Link DSL G604T for just over a month now, and while it generally works fine, every now and again, it will drop both the WiFi and Lan connections...and to fix it I've had to pull the power and restart...

Admitively I have not tried to figure out the problem and only use the Wifi myself.

If you come up with a soloution Juha I would love to hear from ya!

The firmware, does it have to be _TX (Telecom Xtra modified firmware) or can it be generic?
And what the difference between Revision 1 and Revision 2?

This is my current firmware version: V3.00B01T01.TX.20060516

Although I do read that the Generic firmware interface is accessable through the 'Advanced User Mode' menu...where do I find that?, and does it really make any difference?

Check on the bottom of the router, it will have A or B, they are hardware revisions, I assume different chipsets.

As for the Telecom modified firmware, it seems to just put a xtra skin over the web config, I have successfully flashed this back to a normal firmware version and you can go to advanced and access the normal menus there anyways...

Yeah that makes logical sense, yet my web config seems to be plain D-Link, no Xtra or Telecom logos anywhere....

In fact I do remember when first setting it up, some of the Xtra config details were already put into the box's....maybe thats the only difference, it comes preloaded with xtra settings, not an actual change to the interface/gui itself?

Im also with XTRA, and until just last month or so, it was working PERFECTLY

I used to get good DL speeds (450kBps) and the line tests all used to show good results (3000kbits/110kbits)

Recently, ive been gettin very frequent line dropouts (ADSL Light Drops, and reconnects) which means i cannot do ANY online gaming at all... even web browsing is a hassle, speeds have decreased tremendously and im on the Explorer Plan (which i do not crib about.. as long as it CONNECTS for more than FIVE MINUTES)

I get about 120 Disconnections+++ per day.. and its gettin extremely frustrating.. Any solution to this yet?

I got one of these units from Telecom when I signed up as well.

I haven't had too much trouble like you guys, although I'm not really loading it down, I have one PC pemanently conencted to it on a wire, and one laptop running off wireless.

Mine didn't come with any Xtra branding inside the configuration menus either - I'm not sure what is up there, I read on a site somewhere that the normal configuration was available somewhere but I seem to have all of that by default.

The only issue I have with mine is that restarting the unit by going into the Tools tab/System button/Save settings and Reboot the system will indeed restart the unit, but the wireless access sometimes won't restart, so I have to go to the hard wired PC and tell it to restart the wireless.

I think the unit had the Telecom settings set up in some fields when I ran the Xtra startup disk that came with the unit. I didn't have to setup anything at all, it just worked. Although I have port forwarding set up now.

Cheers.

I think your a little of topic bud, this post is about problems with a specific router, your discussing problems with your internet connection after the 'unleashed' took effect.

Ya should either start a new thread under broadband or post to a more relevant thread where they are discussing broadband slowing down after being unleashed...theres plenty of threads covering this topic.

Ok, but if your never had these problems before, untill it was 'unleashed', that logically tells ya thats the problem is not with the router, but withe Xtra being unleashed and the adverse effects its had...

Its well discussed and documented problems just like yours have happened to many since the unleashing of telecom broadband.

Myself included, used to download fast before being unleashed, now virtually dont at all, but thats another thread topic, Ill leave it there.

dont hold your breath waiting for new firmware; they don't have enough RAM (8MB total) to track the NAT of more than a couple of torrents.

One of my customers has had problems using a Linksys wireless modem and staying connected to the Telecom network. He is in Otahuhu and until last week had never had an issue with telecom's service.
