OMG... What's really going on with Telecom's ad folks?

I've seen the first Clever Toys ads now. I've been in front of TV for almost three hours watching two shows and they run a single ad, after 10pm. I doubt the demographics they are trying to reach watch TV at this time. I mean, who is a "smart youth" that watch Faulty Towers on TV One after 10pm?

What a waste of money. And the quality? Almost as bad as the Ferrit ads...

When you buy TV ad slots, you get some free slots.

You have no choice on when they appear, they are just extra to what you have paid for.

So if your market only watches TV from 600 to 1200 then any other slots that are free are useless to you, but then they are free so who cares?

This is as bad as it gets, Talking stuffed toys.........

I thought "Connecting NZers" was bad enough..... now this... did they hire Vodafone's marketing guru?

Let the cleverness into every corner of your life by assembling the entire ensemble of Clever Toys downloads. It’ll say something about you…

More like... "show how little of a life you have by spending 4 minutes clicking on every single one of these wallpapers and then actually having one as your wallpaper!"

"Plus I’m good at anything electrical and I get to meet all these housewives who really dig my curly hair"
Sheep shaggin anyone?

"As I always say, you have to treat men like a fashion accessory and change them frequently. :-)"
What WERE you smoking when you put this site together!!!!

And did anyone notice the Vodafone online store website said about the Nokia 1110i? (the cheapeest mono nokia)

The black and white display with green background offers you a fresh outlook to staying in touch..
"fresh outlook"... Really? will it help me score?

Make a new friend, and let the Nokia 1110i’s MP3-grade ring tones tickle your senses before you say hello to someone new.

Sorry those "mp3 grade" tones really just don't give me the shivers, I want a refund.

Oh dear...... Time to outlaw Cow Dewormers (Party pills) and Alcohol I think.

Time to trash the site...

While we're having a gripe at Telecom ads, I'd like to throw my 2c in.

The "Come Together" which advertise the Telecom videophone seem to have taken a strange twist.  Instead of the person calling their friends/family on the videophone and the camera zooming in on any gratuitous tears, they've taken to surprising the person by flying their family to NZ.  Now this seems to tell me that it's better to actually buy a ticket and go and see someone rather than picking up the phone.

Or is Telecom secretly starting up an airline?

Glad I am not the only one. I took it one step further and emailed my opinion to someone (who will remain nameless) at Telecom. This is what I said:

That Telecom mobile ad on TV featuring stuffed puppets with someone’s hand up their a_se is absolutely dreadful. Too much talk, no catchy tune and what is the point anyway? I have seen it probably 3 times now and every time it comes on I cringe and can’t bear to watch it. What were you guys smoking? Seriously do yourselves and the rest of the population a favour by taking it off the air before we all drown in our own vomit. Even the cartoon bubble man used in the original 027 ads was better than this latest inane, sad a_se, poor attempt at humour and entertainment. I suggest you treat Saatchi’s to a holiday in Texas where they can all be legally executed for the crime of inducing mass barfing!

I was wondering exactly the same thing! Why bother calling - being there in person is so much better. I was waiting for the Air NZ logo to appear on screen any minute..

Today I was told what the whole campaign was about.......

The phones being "clever toys" and the puppets basically being the phones various whizz-bang features that will change your life.....

In reality, Most telecom phones are locked up paperweights (content locked) with exorbidant online charging rates ($50 per megabyte wap) and bad voice quality.

Maybe somone might like to remind them that photo messaging is currently dead for most of the high-end phones at the moment?
Whoops, Clever toys, more like clever toying...... or "Very clever" :-P

oooh look, I'm still on the leaderboard... Time to run a script!

go Jama lol!

The ferrit ads must work - I saw a notice on a greenbelt track the other day warning of "ferrit trapping". You know your product is successful when people use your misplet trademark instead of the correct word...

We are talking about the ads. Your point.
I am not convinced about the product. My Point
I don't even remember the ads now, just got back to this discussion because of notification. My point.

Those are just horrible things...

No one needs to be a genius or have a marketing degree to come to that conclusion.
