Hi there, I was speaking to the Telecom live chat staff, about shipping out a VDSL modem, but they wanted $149.

We currently have the Technicolor modem, and I'm sick of it.

 

It always disconnects, at the worst possible time, speeds are slow, it's slow over wireless, and I have several 8.1 machines in the house, which I had to manually specify DNS settings for, but whenever I make a modification to the network settings, I always have to reenter the DNS settings, yes while it's a quick adjustment, it can be an annoyance if it has to be done repeatedly.

 

Since Telecom issued these modems, which that issue, surely they'd be able to send a modem which has the issue resolved free of charge?

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

 


 

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- If you are rural or urban

 


 

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

 


 

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

 


 

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

 



 

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

 



 

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

Do you have VDSL, or ADSL?

If you have ADSL then the TG582N works fine with Windows 8.1.. If you have VDSL, send me an email "pl at telecom.co.nz" and I will see what I can do.

Yes we do have VDSL, and our modem is a TG589vn. Man I hate that thing.

Yeah not keen on our technicolour one either, hoping no one else here gets 8.1 and comes crying to me it doesn't work :/

I just rung up about our Technicolor vdsl modem and the problems I was having with it and the multiple 8.1 machines in our house and they sent out a courier bag for the Technicolor to send back to them and sent me the Huawei one , its much better and a lot more versatile with with being able to control it with port forwarding etc.
Good on Telecom for resolving the problem in one call.
