Hi guys

Has Telecom started shaping?

 

 

 

Since last night, spotify has been buffering badly, and that's never happened before.

 

 

 

I thought it was my phone, and I reflashed, only to find the following morning, that it was also funny on my Desktop too.

 

Also noticed on some video websites, the video buffers frequently, and where as on past occasions, it's never done that.


 

Has the shaping started, or must I investigate the wiring, and setting of the equipment at home?

 

Here's my line stats, and I can guarentee you that it's not my line speed.

10351

 

 

 

 

 

 

Spotify worked on a 384kb ADSL line in South Africa, without any buffering, so I know it's not because of my line speed.

 

 

 

If Telecom is shaping trafic, especially spotify, it's ludacris, considering they offer the premimum package as part of their Deals.

Can someone look into it.

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

 



 

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

i am not on unlimited and peak traffic is really bad. i think it's your unlimited neighbour hurting the speeds

Twitch is very bad tonight, routing through Singapore which is always congested doesn't help but tonight is particularly bad, liveleak videos dont load for me as well, youtube is fine

there seems to be a major issue with traffic going into the Asia Region for Telecom customers getting near dialup speeds

Update,

 

 

 

I connected my phone through a NZ VPN, and spotify seems to be working.

 

Had reports of people having issue with p**nhub, videos just buffer, and I won't be testing if that's resolved.

So certainly an internet issue.

It's running like a dog for me too to liveleak.com and speedtest to Bangkok. I'm not on unlimited, and in Invercargill.

Ping's don't seem that bad though that's the strange part.

It's effecting access to geekzone too.

Tried doing a speed test to Internode in Syndney, getting a whopping 160Kbps.

Telecom status page of course is useless.

Yip, that's the strange part.

 

 

 

Usually when I suspect something's out of action, I jump onto things straight away but becuase all seemed normal ping wise, I suspected nothing.

 

Was only this evening when I started investigating why.

It does seem like traffic shapping or lower priority traffic giong extremely slllloooow.

It's not traffic shaping, its some sort of fault - because no matter what protocol im using as soon as I hit Internode im getting major speed issues down to 10kbps. 
All other handovers are fine. 

And nope, Telecom are not shaping the Unlimited plan, and this is affecting all plans ( have connections on other plans which are all affected).

I am on unlimited fibre and seems reasonable... I am getting 4MB/s from the 100meg test kiwirock linked above. Only getting about 41/28 on speedtest to Internode Sydney though (95/42 to Telstra Sydney). So looks like issues outside Telecom's core network, possibly with an upstream peer?

I'm on the 500GB plan and the peak traffic is horrible.

Twitch and nicovideo aren't even loading for me.

Apparently my friend on Telecom UFB has no problems on his connection, I'm guessing it's just the VDSL pool having problems.
