Hi

This has been an Issue for about the last month where latency around 6pm on weekdays and 2pm during the Weekends is  higher where I go from pinging Auckland at 17 and bumps up to 50+ms. Obvious it's peak hours but in some cases download speeds seem to drop aswell. But why isn't this even resolved yet. I've had mates displaying similar results during these hours and have phoned up about it, including myself where the staff said they would reset the connection which didn't do anything.

Example

Pinging trademe.co.nz [202.162.73.2] with 32 bytes of data:

I'm currently on Sparks 150gb VDSL Pakage.

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

 


 

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- If you are rural or urban

 


 

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

 


 

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

 


 

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

 



 

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

 



 

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I've been having the same issues over the last couple of weeks. 80ms pings when I use the Spark speed test and very slow speeds on VDSL in Christchurch. When we first got VDSL installed the connection was excellent, but now it is very different. Going to call Spark tomorrow to try and get some help as I have no idea what to do.

sounds possibly like congestion, if this is the case you will have alot of work ahead of yourself to get it sorted (and thats assuming the cause of it is seen as viable to get fixed.)

- Do all your tests over Ethernet.
- Try to keep traffic usage while tests are inplace to a minimum (otherwise you could cause spikes within your own network..)
- Pick key points to test against, zeus.jetstream.co.nz, Trademe, Stuff etc.. Do note if your going to the Wellington or Auckland servers where applicable.

Hopefully that list can start you on your way to looking at it.


I suspect the Spark Staff have assumed DLM profiles increasing causing a higher latency or suspect a reboot will fix it.

In your case, looking at your normal pings, ild say your on an 8ms profile, Which obviously isnt the best if your wanting the lowest ping but pretty reasonable.


as for "slow speeds" (Delirium) far more details are needed. ild recommend a second thread..
