About to get a couple of cheap candybar-style mobile phones - both models are locked to Spark. My question is since these are part of a "bundle" (whatever The Warehouse thinks it is), do they work with any Spark SIM card or only specific ones (e.g. prepay)?

In-laws are on account and need two cheap phones...

http://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/red/catalog/product/Spark-Nokia-208-Bundle-Locked-Black?SKU=1801909

http://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/red/catalog/product/Spark-Samsung-E3300V-Locked-Bundle-Black?SKU=1846578

Also, they have SIM cards - can I get a couple of blank microSIM at Dick Smith and get these transferred over the phone?

Cheers

The are network locked so will work just fine (not like AT&T etc).

I don't think DSE will have blank SIM's, maybe some $5 prepaid ones? Easy to change them over.

Ok, got two Nokia 208 now - it comes with a SIM card. Can I use these SIM cards and transfer their numbers over the existing ones? (On Vodafone you can't reuse SIM cards)...

Yes you can, the store or 123 / Prepaid help desk will just disconnect them and then run a SIM change for you.

On Spark we can reconnect old SIM cards. A sim is just a sim is just a sim. The only differences are between eg 3g only sims and 4g sims. But now the new HLR it shouldn't be an issue.

But you shouldn't have an issue getting any sim reconnected.

Caught up with parents-in-law this weekend. They took the two new phones to a Spark store and asked to have their number transferred to the SIM cards that came with the handsets.

The salesperson said they can't do it and just handed back the SIM cards, obviously charging for new SIMs.

Talk about the mothership not communicating with the minions.

Was it a real Spark store or an agency??   I've found agency stores less that truthful at times..

I don't know - didn't ask where they had done that.

Guessing the SIM's that came with the phones had a prepay number attached? If so I think the issue is they need somewhere to port the prepay number to so that sim becomes blank, then they can port your number on to it. Or that's what I've struck in the past anyway.

Yes, but PeterL said before we can reuse SIM cards on Spark.

Strange.

My guess would be that the people in the shop just didn't know how to do it.
