Spark xtra email server is not blocking already "Blacklisted" senders

 

In this case: donspencersolicitor@aol.com this is the untempt time I have received the multi million dollar bequeath from this bogus solicitor.

 

I Blacklisted him in my webmail server facility the first time but have just received exactly the same email from him again. This time when I go to Blacklist him I can't as the server says I have already Blacklisted him. So if I have already Blacklisted this address why am I still receiving emails from him.

 

Since Spark has moved us from Yahoo I have never received so much spam as I do now. PayPal security breaches, euro lotto wins, love proposals and even a fake Spark account bill. In fact in all my 23 years with Australian TIG, ihug, iinet then Spark yahoo, I can say I received less spam then than I am receiving now.

 

It would be much appreciated if Spark xtra would do something about training or updating their filters a bit better because they certainly are not learning off my Blacklists.

After some email exchanges with Spark Security and Abuse section all has been sorted. I must say though that the help pages & guides were not very helpful, more about that later.

 

Anyway for others that may have similar problems he is a general guide into how to deal with spam, phishing and any other nasty emails you want to Blacklist and mark as Spam.

 

1. Log into your Spark extra webmail based account (not your desktop mail program)
2. Highlight the offending email in the email listing in the middle column
3. Click on the BLUE menu hamburger select ‘Blacklist sender’ from the drop down menu
4. Next a small window will pop up to confirm your selection, click “Blacklist’. Now a new smaller window will pop up confirming that this has been completed successfully and will then fade away after a few seconds
5. Now just drag and drop the offending email over to the “Spam’ folder in the left column
6. If however that small confirmation windows says “! The address you are trying to block is already on your blacklist.” Then do the following
7. Click on the BLUE menu hamburger select and select ‘View source' from the drop down menu
8. A new window will open showing lots of alphanumeric characters, we are only interested in the very top line ‘Return-Path: <email address>
9. Highlight the email address between the two arrows < > and copy or write it down. Close that window
10. Click on the white menu hamburger to the far right of the orange menu tool bar and select ‘Settings’
11. Within ‘Settings’ click on the grey arrow next to ‘Email’ in the far left column to expand the list and then select ‘Blacklists’
12. Now in the large column to the right is a list of all your ‘Blacklisted’ addresses. Click on the large blue ‘ADD’ button
13. In the long oblong box that appears paste in or type in the offending email address and press ‘return’ or ‘enter’ on your keyboard.
14. The offending email address has been now been ‘Blacklisted’
15. Select EMAIL far left on the orange menu tool bar to return to all your emails and drag and drop the offending email into your “Spam’ folder

 

Hope all this was easy to follow

 

For Spam, phishing and all other suspicious nasty emails DO NOT click on any links especially if they say “LOG IN” here.

In my post correspondence with Spark I pointed out that the “Help” section was not very helpful in this instance. Here is what I said;

 

I must point out that it took me quite some time to actually find my ‘Blacklist’ initially. There is NO ‘Help?' guides concerning ‘Blacklists’ or ‘Spam’. I slowly trawled through the following: Index & User Guide with no results. I am fairly computer savvy so I was able to find it and figure it all out eventually. Even using my browser “Find” within a page facility did not help.

 

I know you are trying to use an ‘Intelligent’ help facility but if you are in the ‘Email’ > ‘Blacklist’ area and you click on the “Help’ ? Top right it leads you to 3.3. Customising the Basic Settings. Would it not be better to lead you to instructions concerning Blacklists when it gets written.

 

There is no search facility for the “Help?” Guides. There should be a ‘Search’ facility to the right on the main ‘Orange’ menu bar which searches all the help & user guides. Also this ’Search’ facility should also be available on all the ‘Help?’ black menu bars far right. I also found the ‘Index’ link accidentally. Would it not be better to have that in the ‘Black' menu bar as well.

 

This is all something to pass onto SMX or whomever maintains the site. It is just common user friendly design philosophy.
