This is on a 100/20 BP plan.

Im grateful my upload has gone up but would prefer some more download as Netflix needs 24Mbps for UHD I believe?

Why do they advertise 100Mbps when they can only deliver 1/5th that?

Also is UFB more stable? With VDSL we would get constant drop outs where netflix would freeze and then rebuffer or Skype would just go all choppy and unusable?

After waiting 1 year to get UFB from start to finish, Im a bit non plussed so far, Id thoroughly recommend not going down the path if I was to do it all over again.

There is a general forum - it is called "New Zealand Broadband".

Also, you testing over WiFi or Ethernet? Are you using any unblocking services also as this will cause things to slow. You need to provide more detail.

Because everyone connects through a retail provider so it would help if you said who yours was so this can be moved into the correct forum.

Obviously something isn't right. UFB should be an infinitely better service. Have you contacted your provider and raised this as an issue? I suggest that should be your first step, then post back here with what happened.

After making sure your service has been provisioned correctly (it sometimes isn't) then we start down the path of eliminating any possible issues at your end. Most speed issues are something to do with the customers equipment or setup

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

It doesn't. Something's wrong (on your end most likely) if your speeds are that low. Give us details of your setup?

Btw you should've posted this in the Bigipipe forum, can a mod please move?

Testing over ethernet, UHD played on VDSL. Havnt tried on UFB because no longer have a UHD netflix account.

Using a NF4V router. Not sure what other details Im meant to supply.

Sorry I missed the general forum, my eyes missed it. I thought this must have been normal.

It gets worse, its now dropped to 5Mbps down, 6Mbps up and 7ms ping. WTF lol, HELP PLS

Im getting a new ethernet cable to rule that out.

Speeds via wifi are back to about 30Mbps/20Mbps 3ms

Is there anything I can do with an NF4V to increase the wifi speeds, Id have expected faster speeds from it than that.

After that Im going to test OMT directly.

Wifi and ethernet speeds seem consistent. It could be the ethernet cable but I doubt it. Plus my wifi should be faster than that, 1 single connection 1 metre line of sight.

Yep I know John, thanks. Was just showing its not due to multiple users sucking up the 120Mbps.

Is there anything that can be done to improve the WIFI? There must be something limiting it. Upload speed has doubled with UFB.

your forgetting neibouring connections can also be taking up the RF space, thus slowing Wifi.

Also that 120Mbps is half duplex.

BP don't do any shaping on their end so there is no profile issue there.

Have you tried asking them? they can check the other end of things.

Hi,

So we're talking about your VDSL line i am guessing. Those speeds a) vary from day to day (e.g. colder wetter weather will reduce your speed etc..) b) the DSLAM also tries to give you a stable connection. If your noise rate falls below certain levels it will cut speed in favour of stability.

In your case the upload is good and download is "bad". It totally looks like a line issue. I'd suggest checking every inch of your line for extra phone ports (you'll want to strip everything off bar your line to the modem and I hope you don't have voice), electromagnetic influencers,... maybe get a good line filter. Replace cable joiners where they have rusted or aged.

UFB is totally different. Either it works or it doesn't cable length can be up to 8km. It's a digital medium, where VDSL sort of isn't. It's still waves over copper that then translate to bits. So there are all sorts of influences. UFB is light and a light is either on or it isn't (yes, there can be light echoes and the such if installed incorrectly). So UFB is always preferable.

Wrapping your house in tinfoil is a good one, :), but seriously have a look at how many networks are in your vicinity and what channels they are on,

But Wifi is never a guaranteed solution with the spectrum being a general use resource with no licensing.....

Interesting the Mrs is a Double DR in Biology, so she gets lots of gadgets. One of which is the new samsung toughpad for doing surveying work of species. Anyway, I just tried that down the end of the building and it has much better wifi results than my notebook haha.

But still nothing close to 30Mbps, so it will need some replacement. But generally is 30Mbps the best you can expect from Wifi?

Can I connect the TV directly to the OMT?

New ethernet cable on the way.
