Have had Bigpipe UFB 100/20 for 3 years or so - never had any issues.

Yesterday at breakfast noticed sites taking ages to load.

Finally everything stopped.

Reset my router and cycled the ONT as well.

Came back but was slow as hell. Went to work and later in the day the internet didnt seem too bad so never thought much more about it.

This morning - same thing - everything ground to a halt. Just gave up and went to work.

Seemed ok when I returned but around 3pm my desktop and tablet both suddenly reported there was no internet.

I tried hooking my laptop directly to the ONT - but couldnt get it to connect - even following the Bigpipe help page.

Contacted them on chat and the support person said to try a different router - which I actually happened to have.

The spare eventually connected and the internet worked for a little while - I ran some speed tests and was getting around 100/0.5 - up to around a half Mb upload speed!(either with a direct cable to router or wifi connection).

They suggested I change the ethernet cables - no difference.

Went back to the original router it reluctantly reconnected - identical crap speed test results as above.

Finding pages take a very long time to complete loading.

At the end of the chat session the tech said they would send me something to help test by email - havent got it yet - hope they do send something.

Fibre is usually rock solid unlike dodgy old copper wires - Has anyone else had anything strange like this?

I've had a similar problem since 20th August. I have had 100/20 from Bigpipe for 2+ years and have not had a problem. Since the 20th August I have lost my connection briefly every few hours until my router reconnects. When I do have access Speedtest routinely reports 100Mbps down and less than 1Mbps up. I have jumped through the same hoops as you - swap out router & cables to no avail. Chorus monitored the line for 24 hrs and can't see any faults. I struggle to send attachments via e-mail because the SMTP server times out and I can no longer call via my Cisco VOIP setup because the callers tell me I'm breaking up.

Unfortunately I don't have a solution yet either.

That's around the date my problem started too. Been a UFB customer for around 2 1/2 years.

I have been bounced around Bigpipe support for a week but might have made some progress today - they are going to escalate to a Chorus site visit. I ended up getting very cranky with their support and was called by a very helpfull support person who apologised.

Last week I ended up signing up for 12 months just to get the 'free' router as they seemed convinced that was the issue (I had already tried a spare router I had at home).

The speed tests are still the same no matter what I use (even a PC connected directly to the ONT).

The PC seemed to disconnect pretty quickly though.

I typically get anything from 0.10mpbs to 0.80mbps - watching it on the speedtest it waves around a lot.

The upload is always at least 100mbps.

The Huawei router does not seem to register any disconnects - the previous TP-Link did seem to get disconnects.

My theory is that the Bigpipe Huawei hangs on a little longer and rides things out a little - so it hasnt actually fixed anything, its just masking a disconnect.

I think that the really awful upload (Download is always solid) is sometimes dropping to zero and that stuffs up web browsing/streaming etc.

I think you need to push this as a non-performing upload rather than a disconnect - they just seem happy to say that chorus cant see any disconnects and leave it at that.

Use their online chat tool rather than email - it is slow - but you get a live person and a response - email seems a bit painful.

I'm inclined to agree the the upload speed drop is at the bottom of this so I'll mention that to Bigpipe too.

I'm in Mt Eden in Auckland.

Actually - just checked back and it was a monday morning that the problem first started happening - so that was monday 20th August.

Like something in the backend flicked into ADSL mode (i.e. why not 5-10Mbps UL, or dead all-together)??

Could just be something they mucked up with the new connection - hard to say.

They do muck up the provisioning sometimes I understand.

Kowalski and I both started having the issue the same day by the look of it.

Nothing should have been changed on either connection - both been connected for 2+ years.

Also in the same geographical area (not sure if West Auckland goes through the same gear).

My suspicion, once I had eliminated everything in my house was there is either some gear that is playing up somewhere in the network or there have been some bad software updates/changes somewhere.

You could almost not notice the problem if you were a very casual user.

Yeah I agree could go unnoticed by a lot of users.

Just had a couple of rounds of support with 2degrees.

First rep managed to get the speed up from 40/0.4 to 130/0.4, second rep did something else and now up to 200/0.4 lol.

Eventually they said apparently Chorus hasn't actually closed the order yet so there were surprised I had connection at all... and to give it another day or so.

This lends me to believe as suspected the 0.1-0.5Mbps upload is some sort of default Chorus profile...may help with tracking down your issue?

Although if you're saying you guys in near west Auckland too then possibly I got moved to the same crappy gear and there's some backhaul issue going on somewhere?

I have been asked repeatedly by Bigpipe support to replace my ethernet cable which I have done TWICE to no avail. When my connection is up I consistently get Speedtest results of 100Mbps down but am unable to break 1Mbps upload speed (it's usually much less). I can also sustain real world download speeds of 3 to 4 MBps.

Could someone smarter than me explain why an ethernet cable might be the cause of this speed differential?

My naive assumption is that if packets can flow along the cable in one direction at a given rate they should, ceteris paribus, be able to flow at the same rate in the opposite direction.

It would be unlikely but possible that the cable could have an issue.
But if you have swapped it and the problem still exists they need to move to the next thing on the list.

Keep labouring the defective upload speed issue.
Can you connect a PC directly to the port on the ONT?
