Hi there,

I'm working on a site with very slow VDSL upload speeds (download isn't the best either) - around 20Mbps down and less than 1Mbps up.

I've checked all the settings on the Vigor 2860 and it all looks good:

Screenshot of settings is below - I changed 'Encapsulating Type' from VC MUX to LLC/SNAP as per the recommendations on the Snappernet datasheet, but there has been no improvement. VLAN Tagging is set to 10.

I've also included a shot of what I assume is the master filter installed onsite - the line is VDSL only, so that photo is of the line's point of entry into the premises.

It's worth noting that the site is on the far limits of VDSL coverage but Spark were happy to provide it. Any suggestions on what we could do to improve the situation?

More than likely it is what it is unfortunately. Potentially you may even be better on ADSL in regards to the upload, sounds like you are right on that limit.

Changing any of the settings you have mentioned won't affect the line speed, it just needs to be set correctly for your ISP. Spark's settings are listed here.

Can you please post screenshots of the line stats page?

Have you got the correct firmware installed? You will note on the draytek.com.au download page that there is an AU/NZ DSL firmware specific for us.

What are the xDSL sync stats? Maybe they are over 800 meters from the cabinet / exchange

You're significantly better there than you are going to get on ADSL.

There should be a dedicated stats screen, like the following...

Just checked and the firmware is slightly older, I'll definitely try upgrading to the NZ/AU version, I do see that on the site.

@wratterus - I can't seem to find that page, can I get the stats through the console? All the Draytek support information is behind a login so I can't read the support pages I'm finding on google.

On the Drayteks I've used, the line stats are under 'Diagnostics' then 'DSL Status' or something along those lines.

I found these from the web console - vdsl wasn't an option but these look like the line stats. There's nothing I can find that has detailed line stats under diagnostics. No DSL Status option or similar.

Quick stab at the dark based on the line number printed there, looks very much like your serial number i'm seeing here.

Please upgrade your firmware to the Vectoring capable firmware.

I'll give it to you, previously it was faster, 29/2.1 though. That was on a HG630?

The iftn chipsets sync a little lower, which is exactly what your seeing.

Honestly, Not seeing a fault.

Historically months back it was a tad faster, that would have been on 8b, Vectoring is only 17a so you loose a bit of upstream power there.

Spectrum doesn't look too bad, Infact looks like it could be getting faster. Once again at this stage i put that down to modem or wiring based on initial checks.

Thats what you should be running. There are two files in the download, .ALL and .RST - don't apply the .RST as that factory resets it.

@Mattmannz sorry about the formatting on that last question - it did look nice until I submitted it!

I'll upgrade to that firmware and see how it goes - thanks! It almost seemed like they were listing different firmwares for different models so I was concerned it would be the wrong one.

@Hio77 I'm not sure what you're getting at with a few of your points, but as noted by Mattmannz, I'll definitely upgrade the firmware to the vectoring capable NZ/AU firmware.

I don't know what you're referring to in regards to the previous speeds or the HG630.

It does seem a bit slower after I switched from VC MUX to LLC/SNAP

It's always been on the Draytek, the 2860 was installed at the same time as the VDSL connection.

Do you think 1Mbps or less upload speed is acceptable for a VDSL connection with those line stats?
