Hello,

I'm in a bit of a pickle. The front house have ordered fibre through their provider (not yet installed )

I am in a self contained sleep out. It has had a phone line installed to the sleep out now disconnected.

I put a order through to skinny for fibre with them coming back saying a order is already going this this address.

We use the same exact address and number. I called my landlord explained to them. They then contacted chorus directly and explained the situation and set up. They said that that is fine shouldn't be a problem to just put the order through and let the provider know its for the place behind front house. The disconnected phone line to my place is easy straight forward line.

I'm a bit hesitant to try and explain this all again to Skinny. Could I get some help here please for someone to take what details they need to look at this for me?

I would be very much appreciated.

One free fibre install / connection per address, If you want fibre to another dwelling on the same property then you or the landlord will need to pay not the tax payer

There is nothing for Skinny to look into, Skinny have zero say in the matter!

How close are you to the main house and any reason why you can't share the fibre internet connection / monthly fee with them?

Fairly close to the house where i can see almost full bars on their connection, I would prefer not to go that way if possible however have thought about that and have taken that in mind.

Depending on how much it would cost I would be happy to put in some and for the landlord to cover also.

You can basically use a spade directly ahead to my place. I just tested with my feet, Its between 50 and 60 feet. one foot in front of other almost.

From someone who actually knows.....
& has been in the same situation as you.

Yes it's possible - 'your' provider needs to request a service on the 2nd port on the ONT.
(That request may not be able to be 'started' until the first install has taken place & been allocated an 'identifer'.)

Best of luck - it took me over a year to get mine sorted.

@hoi77 may be able to peek at the address and sort out what you need to say to Skinny exactly - to make it happen smoothly.

You can't just easily order a connection for a sleepout. The property has already had it's free connection.

To order a connection a new address location will need to be created, and depending on the exact location and what is required this may require a network build to do it, and you may be required to pay the full cost for a secondary install if this is not a separate property (ie own lot number and address).

Trying to 'share' with another tenant is simply a recipe for slow internet/WiFi & disagreements.

Maybe disagreements but not slow internet on a Gb fibre connection

I would try and run a Ethernet cable from the main house to the flat and then setup a good AP

From memory, the main place needs their fibre installed first, then you can place your order - but only once that's been completed.

Place a "2nd ONT" order after main house order is complete. Have some conduit ready and trench dug etc to make an easy path from the Fibre ETP to the 2nd dwelling. Maybe have some cash on hand too. Show the Chorus tech all your hard work, where your ONT needs to go, and the cash in case the job is a bit more effort required.
Happy fibre!

Is skinny 4g wireless internet available in your area? Could be an option. Just plug it into a wall socket and you’re away.

From memory it's easy enough if the sleepout/granny flat is legally recognized as a separate dwelling (e.g. 23A and the main house is 23), but gets a lot harder if it's not.

As others have said, you need an Additional SAMID (reference to an Address within the Chorus database) OR a second ONT at the same address, both will cost money as the tax payer funded fibre install has already happened for that address

Have you been setup with VDSL2 in the meantime?

Could you please flick me a private message with your address? I'll check it out and see what options might exist for your specific situation.

This - most of those techs will take cash if you want something a bit "extra".
