I recently upgraded from Telecom basic to the explorer plan to avail of the increased speed from ADSL2+
A Telecom rep called to my house to inform me that I would get far better speed if I upgraded my plan.

Like a fool I upgraded and since then I have noting but problem, basically my connection speed decreased.

After a number of calls and emails to Telecom support they said I needed to change my modem and gave me on there Thompson wireless modem to try.( I was using a Dlink wireless router compatiable with ASDL2+)

This seems to have fixed my problem with I'm connected via a cable to the internet but not when I connect wirelessly, I'm back to the download speeds I had before I upgraded


The speed test I have done wirelessly are or two feet away from the modem so it not distance that is the cause of the problem. I have also checked my set up to the best of my knowledge and I cannot see anything wrong. I performed tests with the phone lines connected and disconnected, cordless phone connected and disconnected, sky connected and disconnected. I  constantly get a upload speed of somewhere between 1500kb/s and 3000kb/s.

Any got any suggestion on how I solve this - telecom support seem baffled ?

At 2 feet you may be overloading the front end of one of the devices - move out to about 5m and see if it improves.

Also, remember that wireless will never be as good, those speeds are fine for browsing so whats the problem anyway?

Have you tried changing channel on the router? Somebody nearby could be using the same channel which will cause significant speed decreases.

Are you sure the router is set to G mode only or B+G and not just B? You should be able to get around 10Mbps out of a regular 802.11g connection.
