Whew ! Just as well I'm on bigtime...

I just checked my broadband usage meter for today and found:
21/10/2009
69991.91 (MB) downloaded
12380.62 (MB) uploaded
82372.52 (MB) daily total usage for 21/10/2009

I think there may be an error somewhere :-)

I was upset at receiving their email telling me I had exceeded my plan quota,  in my case Telecom claim I've used today:

Date:21 Oct 2009
Download Usage: 16433.38 (MB)
Upload Usage: 4104.10 (MB)
Total Usage: 20537.48 (MB)

On talking to their customer support at 19.56hrs,  they tell me they have had other complaints and have "escalated the issue",   HOWEVER they also have informed me that as I have exceeded my monthly data allowance of 20 gig,  at midnight tonight my speed will drop to dial up speeds if they have not resolved the issue !!

BTW,  according to my own Usage Meter Software, my actual total usage (upload & download) today is currently about 312 meg.

Yep - Xtra usage meter sent me a similar excess usage email.

Both my wife and I were at work all day (ie laptops not at home) - and somehow we did 24GB download and 13GB upload. That's impressive. Suspect that to download that much on my ADSL connection, the server I'm downloading and uploading from would have to be plugged into the cabinet across the road (to get that sort of throughput!).

Admittedly Xtra CS were good about it - admitting very quickly that it's a problem at their end.

Phew, I'm certainly glad there are others in the same boat. I received a notification to say I had exceeded my data cap, and logged in to find I had downloaded over 8Gb during the day, though curiously only uploaded 2mb.

I checked here earlier on hoping to find a thread with others in the same boat but didn't see anything... I'm glad it isn't only me now!

Several hours later, and still nothing on the "status alerts" page. My "usage" exploded today, I spent a lot of time looking for malware or a virus until I found this thread. Telecom could put our minds at rest and save a lot of panic at our end.

I just noticed it this morning, I downloaded 38GB and uploaded 29GB yesterday aparently, meaning I'm 27GB over my plan for the month already.

Further to my earlier post (last night),  I've discovered with horror and annoyance that due to my "excess usage"  I only have dial up speed this morning !!!

I've been keeping an eye on my data after my teenager had a mega-download session over the holidays. I too had an over 8GB day with no one home and all of the machines in the network either off or logged off.

Got a big shock as I was bang on target. I'll put my case into Telecom too.

I just called Telecom and they are insisting the earliest they can remove the speed limit to my account is midnight,  so through no fault of mine,   I'm stuck with dial up speed today.....

Likewise, woke up this morning to an alert, and the Usage Meeter telling me I've downloaded 16GB in the past two days. Err, no. Try again. On hold with Telecom as I type this @ 8am Thursday.

EDIT: Have a case number and was transferred to the 'technical team' but no answer - keeps ringing.  Good thing I have the 0800 252 878 number. :)  Will post more updates as I get them.

I talked to a Customer Services Rep who had no idea about what I was talking about. Got transfered to BB helpdesk and sat there waiting for an eternity. I have to go to work how so will to see if I can call them on my mobile - with the bluetooth handsfree of course :)

Received another notification today that I have now exceeded 120% of quota :D Attempted to login and it failed serving the page so I tried to login again and received the following error. Seems to be a little backward in the world of online support. Funny thing is that it did not successfullly login in the first place! "We’re sorry To help ensure Your Telecom is available for all customers, you may sign in only once every 5 minutes. Please wait a few minutes before signing in again."

I sat on hold for a while but I couldn't be bothered waiting. I've got one of the business plans (I work from home) so I don't get shaped, so I think I'll just wait until tomorrow to see if they sort it out themselves.

When I was living over in Australia I had a similar thing happen. I was close to getting shaped so I upgraded my plan on a Friday night. The next day I got shaped (even though the website said I had 30GB left to download), when I rang up they said "oh the plan changing's not working properly, but we don't have a technician here to fix it until Monday". So I ended up getting charged the extra amount for the upgraded plan, while being shaped for 2 days. 4 calls later they hadn't refunded me the money for those days, so I cancelled the account - I wish I had have reported them to the Ombudsman. They weren't a small ISP either, Amcom, who owns a lot of the fibre throughout Australia.

Not just me then - that's good :) I thought my 57GB in a 24 hour period was somewhat overstated..........

Is there any point in calling Telecom? I assume that I'm at dialup speeds until they sort it?
