What is really nice is that the first Treo 700w is a CDMA EVDO version (Verizon Wireless). But watch this space!

Nah sorry

Palm are yesterdays news

What we are all waiting for is the HTC Universal known as the iMate JASJAR, o2 Xda Exec, T-Mobile MDA IV, Vodafone VPA IV, Orange SPV M5000 and Q-Tek 4040.

check out the pics as posted in previos posts not much bigger than Treo 650

http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000777057087/

http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000713057093/

The Palm Treo's you need a pencil to use the keypad to fiddly for most users I have found. I like the keyboard in the jasjar.

Looking at the specs on engadget its not as powerfull as the jasjar and would struggle. Also lets dont forget no Video calling and 3G for most of the world. (prob a WCDMA UTMS version coming?)etc.

To me Palm runing Windows Mobile 5.0 is like Mac users running xp on their machines.

Reason the way I see it is a Palm / Treo is just that a Palm / Treo device running its own system like a Mac. You love it for what it is and I do like Palm it has its place in the scheme of things.

Once they go down the path of running Windows Mobile they are just become another manufactuer like HTC and all the others out there like imate, Asus, Dell, Ipaq, Medion PDA, Mio and Symbol to name a few. Whats the differance of the shell.

Just a box running Windows Mobile - Palm need to stick with it like mac.

And thats another subject as well Macs with intel chips running xp

whats the world coming to!

Hmm... Nope. The Universal is heavier and larger than a Treo 650. I've played with both.

Also, the keyboard on the Treo is very usable - and you couldn't use a pen to tap in it because the keyes are not flat.

The point here is that Palm is a recognisable brand. Executives know Palm, but they don't know O2 Xda Exec, i-mate JASJAR (what a name!), Orange M5000, T-Mobile MDA Pro, QTEK 9000, Dopod 900, or Vodafone VPA IV (check our Windows Mobile Device Database).

But talk about Palm and it's synonym of handheld. A Windows Mobile powered Palm is a great ticket to the enterprise world.

Yeah I see the point BRAND

Everything is about BRAND and how people see it.

PALM have a good name even thoe they have been PalmOne and Treo is is a good brand name as I remember when we brought a Treo from Handspring because it was better than a Palm and Palm then brought the Treo brand name.

What would the world be like if everyting was windows

I just would like to see Palm staying Palm do their on OS as this helps us the consumer have a choice.

We will see how Palm goes and see if the 700w out sells there other lines.

It looks like I am posting the most on this thread - but this is too cool to pass! I am flying to San Francisco in a few hours, to attend a series of events - and I managed to have a seat confirmed to attend the Palm/Microsoft/Verizon Wireless press conference, which will be just around the block from the hotel I am staying while there.

Cool!

While Ed Cooligan (Palm CEO) was talking they had a bit of "dialog" where Ed told us about MSFT having some good stuff, and Bill Gates said he thought the same about Palm, blah, blah.

Ed told the audience he was using the device for a few months already, and Bill Gates told us he got one just today and would be using it from now on. He then talked about the importance of developers, tools, etc.

Most of the time he was quiet, with a smile in the lips - I would have one too!

Interesting setting - I got there with my backpack (Tablet PC, digital camera) and got my badge (pre registration done a couple of days before). No one asked to see inside the backpack, no metal detectors, all very civilised actually - no paranoia. Quite nice actually.

Met a couple of MSFT folks involved in the mobile devices division, and also met the owners of phonescoop.com, palminfocenter.com, and treocentral.com.

I think the Microsoft OS will be much better than Palm for these smartphones. Palm OS just doesn't integrate well with desktop apps. Plus, your contact manager on a Microsoft OS would be Outlook so you can sync easily with your Desktop, very cool!
