The Office PC could seriously do with this CPU. I kind of thought it was going alright until the kids installed the Avatar PC demo game. It ground to a halt and there was crying. The kids cried too...

Lol awesome prize guys.
If I won this would give me the chance to finally upgrade my parents PC which has been struggling along for the past few years now, they really would like a home theatre PC/office PC to keep up to date and for simple movie watching instead of searching through the DVD library every night.

Desktop: i7 920, GTX 275, asus P6T, antec 1200, 6gb ram, 1tb spinpoint f1, 1tb spinpoint f3, Logitech Z2300, Zero DAC, Shure SRH440
Laptop: Toshiba satellite, T5300, Go 7300

I am in the process of researching and looking build my first gaming pc. After years of dealing ith crappy low end pc's I dont think ive ever had a pc over a pentium 4. My NEC laptop has done me well but it is time to move on, I need power.

i would love it to power my under powered ubuntu server i have that i built from left over parts. the server runs mythtv backend, itunes through virtualbox on windows xp, and is running a software raid 5 with all my videos on it. i also use it to convert all my dvds to itunes/apple tv format. as it is now, its struggling with a old p4.
my master plan is to have this computer be the "hub" of my home media, with all my pictures, videos, music and tv scheduling/watching and use apple tvs running xbmc to interface with it.

I would so like to have a PC to call my own...
I don't have a PC that is mine & have to 'borrow' my works connection, use internet cafes, beg, steal (not really) or borrow other peoples. It would be so nice to be able to do all the funky things I hear other people doing.... Take pity on this poor underprivilaged child whose last machine was a pityful AMD single core 1.8Ghz made in 2003.

60 years old and need to get a pc for myself so hubby can research trademe as much as he likes from the communal laptop (with large black blob on screen). would love to have latest processor to start this project with, my kids would be totally green with envy.

My partner helps run a gymnastics club with 110 regular members plus casual members and is responsible for all the 'paperwork' for which he uses our old computor constantly. A high powered processor would be extremely helpful and make his multiple tasks much easier and less frustrating meaning better work done and a happier wife.

My girlfriend's Pentium E2160 processor needs replacing so that she can effectively use it for her photoshop and 3d animation work so a Core I5 processor would be a great start to upgrading her machine to something that meets her multimedia demands.

My Intel Q6600 and motherboard that I got off trademe are having some serious Heat and crashing problems so Im in need of a new Processor for my pc. I was just looking into getting one of these. :D

I need a Core i5 to build a home server cpabale of running large and complex programs I don't need and supporting a software raid array I will never fill - or at least not before the disks are obsolete. I want something with plenty of cpu so that I can run a lot of processes in the background and kid myself that the server is doing useful work. Also I want to run the ZFS file system, which I understand needs a reasonable amount of CPU, but does have a lot of really neat features. That I don't really need, it goes without saying.

Yes, I am trying to be funny, but that doesn't mean I'm not serious.

I'm looking at building a production PC for running Cinelerra, a linux based non-linear video editing system. I can't afford afford a render farm like Weta Digital's but this would be a step in the right direction :-)

Hi,
Perfect timing for the competition I guess.
I just bought a crappy PC to take apart and transform it into an all purpose media server.
Basic Idea:
Connect the PC, my Macbook 13", PS3 and Time Capsule on a single wireless network.
The PC will be the heart and soul of the media server (or a traffic controller), PS3 will also have Play TV attached to it, so it can play and record Free to Air channels. The PC will have online tv software on it to record any free to air channel across the globe and will be set to record prime time TV, depending on the local times in various countries.
All this will be backed up on time capsule.

Oh ya, and my iPhone will also be on the network with any podcast etc streamed to the PC and thru to my LCD to watch HD podcasts, tv episodes etc.

Well, a very simple set up no doubt and the new processor won here will go a long way in managing this straight forward task!! ;)

I would really love a Core i5 Intel Cpu, I would use it in my system which is used for Video Editing and Gaming, I use Adobe Premiere Pro Cs3 and when its rendering it really pushes my current system to the bleeding edge.
