Back from holiday at Lake Ferry - no Internet no Vodafone mobile - cut off from the world! Made a special trip to a Martinborough internet cafe to register for the Wellington Geekzone evening at 12 noon on the 27th hitting the "pay" key a few seconds after midday - as per email instructions.

Find out today I could have registered sooner. Just goes to show you can't be without the internet even for a few days without missing out on the news that registrations started earlier.

A few would prefer the venue to be in Wellington. I'm glad it's on in Lower Hutt - done perhaps just for me! No parking problems in the Hutt and the chance for you out-of-towners to see what a great place the Hutt Valley is - to visit.

See you soon for pizza - there's still 6 places left - be in quick or you'll miss out! (Aucklanders on the waiting list are welcome too.)

Ok, I got my heads up on this event a few days ago, and managed to get an E-ticket for the Wellington event.  Do I really need to print it, wont my ugly mug be proof enough - Christ it is up there on this site!?

Second question: What is the logic behind limiting the number of Geekzone members who wish to go?
If the venue is small... well it is summer, outside will do :)

The other 40 questions can wait till later...

We have a budget. We find out how much it costs per person for a set menu. Most venues accommodate 60 people, not more than that. I then calculate how much for 180 people, and go around with hat in hands asking for money for 180 times the cost per capita.

You are not paying for the food, we book for 60 people. We pay for 60 people even if only 50 show up. We pay for 75 people if 75 people show up - but we only have enough money for 60, remember? Who pays the rest?

The $10 registration fee is a way to get your commitment to show up, it's not a payment for the pizza at all.

That is a fair deal too, I had no issues with paying, this is a good deal for food + drinks + a good nights entertainment at a Restaurant plus that $10 is just put towards the bar tab anyways.

Anyone complaining about $10 is just tight. get over it. Costs more than that to get a lousy meal at maccas, or a food court curry.

That makes sense.
Luckily I'm not running this as I'd go broke real quick :)
I'm not complaining at all, I was feeling a little sorry for any Geekzone members who will miss out. (except Auckland)

Mind you, from a reseller, not from 2degrees directly. I haven't heard anything from 2degrees since the previous PR person left the house...

I've just booked for the Wellington event (I would have booked earlier, but thought I was busy that night) and I've been sent my order confirmation and my username is now listed on the event page on EventBrite. This was before I read the bit about the 60 people limit, and I notice I'm username 61 on the EventBrite page.

Does that mean I've missed out? Or on a waiting list? If so.. darn.

No, no... We are doing a bit of overbooking, just in case. If you get a ticket you are in - the page won't let you buy a ticket when it runs out, automatically opening a waiting list.
