Thanks all for your comments. Even this thread show how different we all are.

This type of request was previously on @freitasm' radar and if it is on any type of list, it's at the bottom of the list. smile

It was bound to happen ;) it was quite a hot topic last time.

I remember @freitasm did an april fools joke once that put "moderator controls" under each post including a ban button. Basically, the ban button did nothing but add a count to a database next to that user and the results were posted as a bit of a laugh. You can find the thread Here as well as the results Here. I was not as big of a poster back then like I am now but I am sure if the same thing happened again (or people actually gained banning powers) I would have been long gone from the forums.

Like others, yes I troll and sometimes I do overstep my bounderies but I do normally apologise when that happens. Most of the guys here are great people and some dedicate time to helping others too making this a great place. Normally those that overstep their bounderies get called out or dealt with by others anyway but in my books this is all part of the fun.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing the feature the OP requested be implemented. I for one would love to have my screen free of contributions from a couple of prodigious posters whose frequently short but inflammatory posting styles really add very little to most debates IMO.

I haven't looked into it but with modern voice-command devices like Siri and Cortana I would imagine there must be some pretty good products that can turn spoken language into text. Even if the result needs a little editing it might still make things easier.

My accent prevents any of these things working, my sons believe even the Startrek computers would have no clue what I am saying.

I've been thinking about this for a little while and have decided that while I'm ambivalent to a feature such as this being implemented I would be highly unlikely to use it myself. I've butted keyboards with some people in some threads (not often fortunately) and agreed with them in others. Losing their perspective, irrespective of my opinion, would make parts of various threads lose context.

Sad to say, I've finally found someone worthy of black-listing, so I'll add my name to the list of people requesting this feature.

Whilst I'd still be seeing their quoted comments in other people's posts, hopefully enough people would black-list them and they'd go away and annoy some-one else.

How would they know if they've been blacklisted?

They don't. But if enough people block them, slowly they will interact less and less. Like Ghosting.

The range of views make this site interesting.  Would be a shame to see it become an echo-chamber.

Some people enjoy debate. Others maybe not so much. I get more from the ones I disagree with, unless they are just stupid (which most are not, just one or two in the time I have been here).

Disagreeing of your views is not reason to have some people banned or their speech censored (by moderators, not by a user-initiated filter). We do receive a few reports every day from users whose main complaint is "This person is saying something I disagree with so the post should be removed"

This not good enough reason and if not a FUG breach then nothing is done.

On another note, I recently received a request from a member to close their Geekzone account because he thought there were too many bullies on this site.

I investigated and saw that no one ever posted a reply directly at this person. It was just a disagreement with different views and the banter that goes on this site.

The point is that if bullying ever happened here then the account holder causing problems wouldn't last long on this site.
