By the way, to make a fine distinction between the Moderator star and the Member star I think we need a different mini icon for Trusted users.

Please send me your suggestions to freitasm at this domain with subject "Trusted star" and I will select one. The winner gets a cool Windows Vista water bottle (it's actually really cool).

I will select an icon Friday (7 October) morning...

Don't the smart normally filter them out pretty quickly? seems like you've got a least 1 particular target for that label Juha!

I kind of like the trusted idea but is not a reputation system more reliable? Can the forum system that you are using do reputation?

The software is customised - we don't have this functionality now, but it is in the plans. Actually "Trusted" is a first step that will let people be more comfortable - and rely even more - when discussing topics with people we "trust".

In the future "Trusted" people will be able to give reputation points, and people will be able to redistribute those points. Then all begins...

Thumbs up might be a bit much,  a badge or bar would be be nice,  just something different from the stars.

Even though I'm trusted, I still may be totally wrong  and the thumbs would be out of place.  ie Labour for the Win

Oh Tony, could you not just embed content for more tag lines. Undecided

Still I like it.

Wait until he embeds flash videos of his racing into his signature line.

on the Au MCE forum there is an option on each post within a thread to "thank" the user if the info they posted was helpful.  Once someone clicks on it they not only get a list of users under their post that thanked them for the useful info, they also get a little section by their avatar saying "thanked XX times in XX threads"

I like that method as it's more directly related to the experience of the user and their desire to thank the other person.  Rather than an arbitrary stamp of approval given by a governing body.

It's a bit different. "Trust" is different from "Thanks". Also this would be prone to abuse with swarms of people giving "Thanks" and trying to game the system.

The way I see it once we have seeded some "Trust" it will be easier for people to make a more balanced decision when reading some discussions. And once "Trusted" people start distributing points then it will be easier for people to see who got recognition.

In other words, one day Moderators will have to worry abot removing the spammers, and the rest will be self-moderated.

If you listen to their weekly podcast, you'll of course know that there's a hell of a lot of work and thought gone on behind the scenes of their reputation 'ecosystem'. But yes, it certainly works well for them.
