Well, it took longer than anticipated, mainly because of lockdown and all but I will be terminating my current full-time employment at the end of July.

Again thanks to everyone who responded to my earlier call - it helped a lot to prepare for this situation and how we can cope for the next few months.

I'd like to remind everyone that small things count - a Geekzone subscription, those links to Sharesies, MightyApe, Hatch all help. Also using Geekzone Price and Geekzone Broadband.

Thank you all!

I have now finished with my (previous) employer... I am back full time on Geekzone until I find another position available for me. As above, using any of these resources always help.

Thank you everyone who has already used one of the links above.

Big thanks to you for all the hard work you have put into keeping this site running. It's nice to have a site with a local kiwi touch, rather than some global, faceless corporation run site.

Now you'll have time to implement the 999,999 feature requests on your to do list! 🤣

I was given a six-month free subscription because of this. Once that's over, I'll get the lifetime subscription. In the meantime, I've donated via Paypal.

Keep up the good work @freitasm.

Cheers!

I'd happily kick in a few more bucks to "kickstart" work on some of those feature requests (and help with the tough times). I currently subscribe year to year since I've been here longer than 5 years and figure I will be here at least 5 more, but if it would make more of a difference now, happy to upgrade that to the lifetime option?

That or some sweet sweet GZ merch. My current stock of black hoodies and t-shirts is alarmingly low.

I have not ever stopped... In the last few weeks I actually removed the Google reCaptcha from most pages - except login, contact, Slack and PM. I have also changed the ad code to make it faster and removed five scripts from all pages (which also reduced number of lines of code on the server). I have also blocked lots of bots - some used by companies to track social media presence - some days we were serving almost 100,000 pages to bots, way more than what we serve to actual humans. This means less load on the server too.

Every day a little thing to make better...

Pardon my ignorance, how do I use the Mighty Ape referral code?

What is the code?

Just click on the link I've posted (or the one in my signature) and whatever you buy after that (for a day or so) will generate a referral to my account. These links are also on the top right of all Geekzone pages.

I shop quite a bit from there, but just usually go straight to the website via a bookmark bar shortcut.

So if I come here first and then use your MA link, and shop as normal, this works out for you?

I hope you give yourself a week or two to relax and recharge with your family before plunging too deep into GZ-related stuff.

Perhaps remind us what sort of positions you are open to considering?  I did search TradeMe Jobs for 'BDFL' in case something interesting was listed that I could forward to you, but weirdly there were no results...

There is an election coming up. If Mauricio were to start the Geekzone party, he could be the BDFL of the whole country.

I'll vote for him if it means free interwebz for everyone.
