@jarledb:

Would love to have a link to Live in the top menu so it was easy to get to wherever you are on the site.

Live is my main page for Geekzone.

Added. Moved the yellow Live box to top of homepage too.

Yay! I wish it was this simple to get features added to software I use all the time.

I am happy with the current format. But I must admit, inertia contributes to that a little.

Why is "created by" and "last reply by" missing from the Participating section on Live?

Should have added also that I prefer the current Home page though go there less often now due to increased work/time pressures.  Yes, could do with a bit of a makeover.  Mostly just look at the 'Discussions' section but like some others I suspect now I will be more inclined to use Geekzone Live as the defacto Home page (already changed my browser bookmark to that).

Rarely go the Forums page unless trying to locate something specific.  Definitely should be retained but would not like it as the home screen

Another blind dope here that has never used live…

Generally people read top to bottom, left to right (in English).

So I would flip the home page - my crappy before and after effort attached.

We should have news, then reviews then blogs on the right. Top to bottom.

We should have a toggle button to show live (not sure how this is done but as a preference) for the two main updating threads.

We should also cut the header down, with all screens except phones (dead horse) landscape means vertical pixels are more valuable than horizontal.

Another confession that I was unaware of LIVE - I will live here now. And, it opens the topics in a new tab, the "feature" that went away that sent me scrambling for extensions that worked similar but never quite the same.

Cheers!

Wondering if the people that didn’t see the yellow Live box were all Safari users. I swear before it was added on the top right today, I searched the entire home page top to bottom and could not see it anywhere. I mean how could anyone miss the bright yellow as it stands now.

Haven't read all of this, but am happy with the existing home page. It would be nice if the Discussion section on the right could have a page 2 or something, so you could go back a bit further in time.

Just noticed, it's not clear on live.geekzone.co.nz that it actually automatically refreshes - that's why it's called live.

I know of people who has that open 24/7 - I can see in our logs some people have thousands of requests a day for those refreshes.

Making the forums page the new homepage gets a vote from me, but only if it retains the 'Discussions' panel as well.

Most things I notice or respond to come via that and its interesting to have a 'real time' activity visible.

If making changes, having the post threads a bit more mobile friendly would be nice - but hey, who goes out and about these days?

EDIT: Actually, colour me stupid, but I hadnt really noticed the 'Geekzone live' option either. Or maybe I did once - but didn't know it auto-refreshed.

How cool.

Let's experiment: Geekzone: technology news, blogs, forums

This is an option on your profile already.
