Was on the picture you posted. Maybe I misread it then.
[EDIT: Was on Ragnor's version of the image. Apologies.]

Lets not confuse the actual design being put forward with the modified version that 'Ragnor' has taken upon himself to mock up and post (as a suggestion) on Page 2. That one has the header banner ad space labeled as a 'Scoop banner'.

[Edit: And you realised this while I was posting ;)]

Indeed, my screenshot was an unofficial quick hack job to offer some suggestions.  I was just mucking around with the banner size after reading about the scoop network sizes the other day, probably shouldn't have put a label on it.

but either way.. think of Mauricio's children (presuming he has children?) they need to eat.  Tongue out

Ragnor: I like it, a couple of tweaks I'd suggest ..

- Highlight the current section in the main menu.
- Right align some elements eg: search
- Line up the first columns content vertically with the other columns
- Perhaps style the textboxes/inputs and buttons for login and search (not shown)

I like the design - its nice and fresh, and in line with current trends.  I also agree wth Ragnor's suggestions above.

As for the mobile version - forums are definately the priority for this version.  Ideally it wont be an "iphone version" - i.e. a heavy graphics site modeled on a small screen.... mobile data still costs $$ here so an optimized version with minimal use of graphics would be desireable (IMO).

I'll also make a brief comment on the subscription - i'd likely pay up if the the cost was maybe $25 p.a.  At $50 it just 'feels' too much.  I have no idea whether reducing the cost would give you more than double the number of subscribers though... i suspect not, which would make the exercise pointless.

Ok folks... I've just talked to RedJungle and we decided to go ahead with the design - after some small changes.

We will start with the frontpage changes, and then rolling out the design to other pages. We plan to have the first public version for use from our pizza evening in Wellington. If all is ok we might have the design completely done/tested by the pizza evening in Auckland, leaving the way open for the rest of the pages to be quickly changed.

The mobile version will be implemented in ASP .Net - it will be the first step in our migration. It will initially access public forums and be read-only, with additional functionality being added as we progress.

By the way, for the purists out there - the new frontpage has no tables this time...

Very Impressed.
It makes the site jump right into the new web design age.

While we're on the website revamping subject, can we do anything about the RSS feeds? Maybe having the latest (or first) posts (or excerpts) instead of just having the link and thread title?

Maybe custom RSS feeds? I wouldn't mind. If you need a hand... o/

And replace the buggy rich-text editor with a more cross-platform one?

Boy, I'm getting too many ideas. Will sit quiet now.
